I'm six days out from my surgery and have been making an effort to get out and about in the world. I'm lucky that I have a pair of elastic waisted sweat-pants style pants that I used for work trousers, and I've been wearing them when I have to go out in public.

I was wondering how long after surgery it was before you tried jeans?

I have an incision on my right side just above my belly button which falls in the roll my pants usually sit in, and I'm concerned about rubbing it. Not necessarily that it will hurt, just that I'll irritate it or slow the healing process.

I wore Jeans about 1.5 weeks out. All the scabs and glue have fallen off my incisions. I'd throw a gauze pade over it if the pants rub right on the incision. I must wear my pants lower that you do. Mine sit and inch or two above my hips. The lowest incision is above my navel.

I waited about three weeks to wear jeans. I had some nice looking workout pants and just wore those instead. My jeans fit right under by belly button and I had some swelling on my tummy and when I sat down the edge of the jeans rubbed the incisions. The scab was off, but I didn't want to irritate them anyway.

I waited for about 2 months because I didn't want my jeans to rub my incision sites. They were healed but somewhat sensitive. My bad was, I completely shrank and the jeans I had were way too big when I finally decided. ;( So I went out and bought some Levi's and quickly shrank and they became toooooo big also. Decided to buy a belt and hold off before buying any more jeans. ;)

I do love losing weight though...... ;)

I wore jeans within the first week, but they weren't super tight on me. I also wore a compression tank top tucked in, so the jeans didn't rub directly on my incisions. I only wore them when I was out and about, so an hour tops. I was too pooped to be out longer than that.

I was so swollen post-op for weeks that I couldn't wear anything like jeans. It was about a month before I could even get back into the pants I'd been wearing pre-op. I was losing pounds, but my abdomen was really swollen. I did find it uncomfortable to wear things that hit an incision spot too.

Thanks, everyone! I guess I'll just have to try a pair on and see how they lay.... trying them on at home at least won't be problematic!

I waited a while before putting on jeans - I think it was at least 2-3 weeks. I had a couple pairs of black maternity pants that I wore when I was pregnant - they were a 2X maternity so they fit my swollen belly perfectly and I could hike the elastic front way up over my incisions and under my bra strap! :) I rotated them for work for weeks because I went back to work very quickly post-op. I don't know if anyone noticed I was wearing the same pants over & over again but if they did, they were polite enough not to mention it!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
