I just flew back yesterday from Texas, where I used to live and ended up having my sleeve, to Boston, where I now live. I had been walking around and mostly ok before flying day, but I was SO exhausted by the end of the day yesterday. Flying really takes it out of you. When our bodies are healthy, we just associate our fatigue after flying with a "long day" of travel but it also puts a lot of stress on your body.

Luckily, my wonderful fiancee was with me, and I got a wheelchair, which helped, and all the airline and airport personnel were really nice. But even today after a long sleep and a pain pill (my first pain meds since day after surgery) I am so SO tired.

Did this happen to anyone else? How long before you weren't so freaking tired? I have to work!!

Oh, I'm sorry you're feeling so wiped out. But you did just have major surgery. Give yourself permission and time to heal.

I stayed at home for a week, then went back to work--but I had a pretty easy time of it, since I only had a couple of classes a couple of days a week to teach at that point. I also really hate pain meds, so I didn't take any--love how they help the pain but absolutely hate the mental fog and would rather deal with a little aching. As soon as you're off of them, you'll feel a difference.

Also, try to keep sipping on fluids. It's easy to get dehydrated during the first days after surgery as the fluids they pumped in there dissipate. Keeping hydrated will help keep your energy level up. Best wishes, and welcome to the losers' bench!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
