Sad Story. Right Doctor And Right Hospital...so Important

Recommended Posts

People are just being ignorant and judgemental....I live in Dubai close to the city where this patient died. People here are not too open about their weight issues.

Bad things always will continue to happen. I have been an OR nurse for 35 years and have seen too many times that things just happen and we have lost people after very simple procedures thru no fault or negilence.

Wow!! I agree that most of the commenters seemed to blame the patient. I wish those people who say this is "easy" would read these (or any WLS) boards for a day or two. While this does make weight loss easier in the beginning, we all know that we must continue to do the work in order to reach our goals.

I feel sorry for the girl and her family.

Like it was stated initially- research your own Doc and find comfort in that. Too many variables in this articles that are not put forth, so it is a good warning to do thorough research.

Well this article didn't really give a whole lot of detail did it? It doesn't say HOW the person died, just that they died AFTER having WLS. And it doesn't say how LONG after having WLS the person died. If my conversion is correct, it sounds as if she weighed 211lbs before the surgery and when she died she weighed 88lbs? That doesn't sound like it happened very recently after the surgery (to lose that amount of weight would have had to take time.)

So without all the facts, how can we judge if the hospital (surgeon, anthesiologist, nurses, etc.) made a mistake or if the patient didn't follow post-op rules, etc. or did the patient have an underlying condition that was made worse by surgery? So hard to tell.

It only says she had a surgery following the first one to fix a complication (leak repair? stricture? hernia? hard to say...) So I think without having more facts this sadly is just a case of someone dying. I'm sorry for the loss of this person and all who knew her.

People who surgery as an easy way out need to carry the extra 170 pounds I've been carrying for the last 15 years and also have a diet of jenny craig, weight watchers and slim fast all year round!

Bad things do happen....we just pray that it doesnt happen to us....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
