I start liquids Monday. Not relishing the idea, but I know I can do it for 2 weeks standing on my head, because I was forced to do it for 3 months before. (Illness) It all depends on what motivates you. Personally, I am motivated by the fact that if I do NOT do the 2 week liquids, I will either get cut open like a fish or have the surgery canceled. That's not an option to me, so I will do it gladly and lap up every drop, num num num.

Now, let's talk AFTER surgery: From what I've read on this forum, it's not too much of an issue. You've decreased your stomach size, and you've decrease your hunger hormone (grehlin). I've heard some say they are hungry after surgery, but most don't. I will be motivated to stick to liquids after the surgery because it will 1. Help me heal well and completely, decreasing the chance of developing a leak and 2. avoid unnecessary pain caused by eating too much too soon. If these things motivate you to stick to liquids when the time comes, then you will do fine. Just make sure you are committed to doing what you need to do to be successful.

p.s....I've gained a few since I scheduled the surgery too....I think it's normal (ish) ;)

Hey there, I haven't lost much weight since my classes with Kaiser. They rather you did, but def can't gain. I go for my pre op with the surgeon on Feb 7th and will get my surgery date then. So I'm going to start a liquid diet Monday to try n lose a lil more weight by then. I think its normal what ur feeling and going thru. Make small changes if possible, it'll be easier.....no soda, park a lil further no snacking etc. The classes are full of info and ideas. Good luck :)

Hi New Grandma! Give yourself a break. I lost 2 pounds in 12 weeks while doing those classes. Yup, pretty much everything failed. You said "how will I be able to do this after the surgery"? Well, you just will. First you will be so swollen and sore you'll think that drinking Water is a chore, let alone eating anything. And the restriction you feel after surgery will amaze you. You CAN do this! After surgery just follow all your surgeon's instructions and the weight will come off. It might not seem like it now, but you CAN and WILL do this. Keep the faith :)

I think I started Options January 2010 at 218 and left in April 2010 at 216...My surgeon called me in June 2010 and said try to lose and DO NOT GAIN...That haunted me...I think I actually gained at got to 221 but finally pulled myself together and got down to 204 by my surgery date August 27, 2010. I used the Weight Watcher method. If I did it, YOU CAN DO IT :)...Best wishes to you!

I didn't have a pre-op diet but I didn't want to give my insurance any excuses, so I lost 1 pound a week. I used myfitnesspal.com. When you set it up, it will tell you how many calories, Protein, carbs etc you need to eat per day. It was not hard at all (since my goal was 1 pound a week) and I was a volume eater. You can do this!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
