Sleeved 1/20 - Having Trouble With Fluid Intake

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! So I was sleeved on 1/20 by Dr Kim in Celebration. The first 24hrs were really rough - I think I puked like 4 times. I was supposed to be out of the hospital 1/21 but had to stay an extra night because I couldn't keep anything down, and then the next day I lied about my Fluid intake so I could go home. I know, shame on me *slaps hand* but I couldn't take it anymore.

So anyway, since I've been home I've been trying like hell to get my liquids in but it just doesn't seem to be working. I haven't had a Protein shake until today because they were too thick and I just couldn't stomach it. Today has been a better day and I picked up some Atkins RTD that I can stomach, but those are only 11oz, how the heck do I get the other 49oz in and still eat my purees like I'm supposed to? Today is also the first day of my puree diet. Breakfast was rough, lunch and dinner were much better.

I know everyone's doctor has different post-op diets but my doc said only Clear Liquids for the first 10-14 days. The goal is to get 40oz in per day. I wouldn't try any pureed food or any drinks that have a milky-like substance until after a couple of weeks. Isopure drinks are considered clear liquid Protein Drinks, so I would stick with something like this. They aren't bad at all--try mixing them with Powerade zero if you don't like the taste.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks! My Dr wants me to get about 60-80oz in and also has me starting purees today, day 8. I'm doing OK with the purees, its the liquids I'm having issues with. The Isopure and other similar consistancies I can handle, its really more the act of drinking so much that's proving difficult. I'm used to drinking a gallon of Water a day, but I also used to chug a lot.

I was having the very same issue. My advice is just keep trying. I try to drink 3oz every hour. But this is something that I started this past Monday. And it was sooooo hard at first, but it has gotten better. I am still at a deficient with Protein, but my Dr. told me to concentrate on getting hydrated.

PLEASE just try!! Keep trying!

I completely understand! I'm still on clear liquids and waiting for the day when I can get to Protein shakes! It's tough to get in 40 oz a day. I drank lots of Water but I chugged it too! No more of that! Hang in there, I feel ya!

Definitely try the Atkins RTD - I've tried 5 different types of Protein and this is the only one I've been able to stomach. It's not thick like the others and doesn't leave that nasty after taste either.

I was sleeved on the 24th and have also been really struggling. I was told I need to get in 60 oz of Water and 50 grams of whey--specifically whey--protein. I'm really hating the **** out of this. Sorry about the profanity. I'm feeling pretty profane right now.

@Writegirl - I am semi-hating this too and some times I feel profane about it as well!!!

But as my daughter tells me everyday, "what's done is done and now you have to learn to live with it." It's very very hard; I take it sip by sip, day by day.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
