Weird Feeling In My Throat

Recommended Posts

Since last night at random times I will start feeling like I have something stuck in my throat. I am still on liquids so it isnt food. Anyone else had this feeling? And when does it go away?

Yes, sure did, you're very swollen in your throat. Only one suggestion, if it gets bad please call your surgeon for advice. I never needed to though. Xox

Yes, mine was so bad that I would actually gag. It was horrible. I ended up living off of ice and sugar free popsicles for a few days. That seemed to help the swelling a lot. I no longer have that, but I feel your pain.

For me its not swelling, its silent reflux (lasopharyngeal reflux) -- are you on a PPI?

Loser mama is right. Are you on a PPI like omeprazole, pepcid or such? I'm 2 months out now but at first these meds really helped with the reflux. My surgeon put me on for a month after being sleeved. Now I only have occasional "silent reflux". Maybe talk to you doctor...... It won't hurt.

Yes I had it when they took that tube out and it went away a week later.

Isn't it weird that I started feeling this two weeks after surgery?

I had both things. For more than a week after surgery, my throat really hurt and was sore from the tubes put down during surgery. That did fade. Then I had the feeling like something was stuck in my throat, especially when drinking. That was the reflux, and I'm on a ppi to help that. I think when I drink or eat too fast it also tends to reappear.

I had this too. I was very scared. It goes away on its own and the ppi had nothing to do with it. Just relax and know it will go away.

For me, the omeprezole was not strong enough. I had to go to a prescription PPI. Hopefully its just some weird post-op body trick, if it hangs around, you may want to talk to doc about silent reflux.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
