You guys sure have lost a lot of weight. That is awesome to see sucess so close to home (Tacoma).

I am on the LONG waiting list for insurance to cover me (not done till MArch 09) Tick tock tick tock. I was almost at the point of just getting a loan and paying for it when my father in law became homeless and is now living with us (ugh...not a good deal, he is a total alcoholic) and not to be totally trailer trashy (i totally am not) he is now living on a trailer on our back property (we have 1 1/2 acres) but still is an expense none the less. I felt upset when my hubby told me because it was stealing my dream from my fingers but now i am trying to be a mature adult and know its just a delay.

Its funny it takes you years to get to this place where enough is enough, you have tried it ALL, it has failed and you give up and then the surgery just clicks and a light bulb goes off. For me, its like the drug addict who had to try everything else on his own before going and getting "treatment". So once you make that decision and find the courage to say yes this is what i am gonna do, scary but worth it...then someone tell you to wait a year...yeah, that sucks. But, heck years ago they didnt cover it at all.

Blah, blah. I just wanted to say Hi to the peeps in my neighborhood and connect with you all. And to tell you how inspiring your sucess it to folks like me, looking through the fence waiting to come on in =)

Juicy...

Jump in, go to the support groups, there's alot you can learn while you are waiting. Glad you're here...get all the info you can and you will really hit the ground running! Does your insurance require a long term diet plan or something? How frustrating! By the time we get to this decision we already know what doesn't work, we're looking for a new tool. Hang in there!

Glad you found us,Juicy! Yes, by all means, jump in and read, read, read. You can learn a lot while you're waiting for your surgery date.

Sorry about your family "situation"! Dealing with that has got to be quite a challenge.

I am a "snowbird"... we spend about 6 mos in WA and 6 mos in CA in our RV.

Hey! I just joined LBT not too long ago, and I am so happy to have another resource to help me along the journey. I was banded at St. Francis Hospital (Federal Way) back in February, but since I work in Kirkland it is almost impossible for me to get to the support groups they hold. Fortunately, they just opened a new office up here at Evergreen, so when they start offering the groups there, I will surely attend. Until then...at least I have all of you willing to share your experiences and stories!

Oh...and for the record...Dr. Srikanth did a wonderful job. If anyone is interested in more info, I am always willing to share.

Mer...

I was disappointed that I had to leave early last night, I would have loved to chat a little with Dave, he seems like a sweety!

Hi Mer and Sue,

Sorry I have missed the meetings the past 3 weeks, but I will be there next Thursday. I really need to go as the chats are very supportive. I am not a great self motivator so the meetings help keep me on track, by acting as reminder of where we have all been and where we are going. Hope all is well with everyone as we continue our journey. Go for 3rd fill Wednesday and hope this will be the one.

Hi Suzanne...

I think struggles with self motivation would be a common for the majority of us...I've always struggles with it, in my weight and many other areas in life too. I just want to do it my way...don't tell me what to do! It's the attitude I'm working on releasing. I think life in genereal is easier when I'm not always trying to fight for my own way. I find when I'm fighting for my way I'm usually fighting what's best for me. OK...I'm done giving myself a pep talk (incase you didn't notice, all the above was a mini-sermon to myself!!!)

Hope to see you this week...I never really know if I can make it until I'm actually in the car heading over that bridge.

Sue

hello all,

feeling very down here. I almost don't even want to write but I figure what can I lose. Encouragement would be good. Over the last 2 months I've gained 8 pounds. I'm so disgusted with myself. Yes of course I have excuses - I hurt my back and couldn't exercise, then I pulled a muscle in my leg the day I went back to exercising - so there went the exercise again. Excuses, excuses. Now that I'm better I feel like what's the point. others have lost a ton of weight and have written that they don't even exercise. I feel like maybe this is my lot in life. whoa is me!!! sorry to be such a downer. I just hate that I've slipped back into old thinking patterns. any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
