It took 4 months about for the approval from insurance. Another month until the phone appointment with head nurse. Then it was the lab tests and onto the wait list for surgery. Was a long wait cause they were moving buildings and one of the doc's had retired.

fleminld...

I don't have an explanation why, but when I had a fill I would often have a delayed restriction...not feel alot right away, then it gets "tighter" after a week or so. But, also, the huge difference for me is hormons. I would get really tight with my period, hormons play a huge part in how my band feels.

Has anyone here used Pacific Surgical for their fills? I had my surgery done in CO and don't want to fly back & forth for fills. Pacific Surgical sent me all their info and their fills are reasonably priced compared to OHSU. Would love to get your thoughts. :)

My mother in law went their for her first fill. I think for the price she is going to NW fills in Arlington for the rest, they were alot cheaper and closer to home.

But she went there for the first because she wanted to have them do the dye study on her first one.

Try the nurses at Northwest Fill Center in Arlington, they are great. I had my band surgery in Detroit at Harper Hospital in April. I live in Sequim, so flying back to Detroit for my fills was out.

I began attending the meetings of various support groups in Western Washington a couple of months before my surgery. I met Kitty and Robin, the Northwest Fill ladies, before my surgery at a Port Orchard Support Group meeting. The Port Orchard Support Group meets at 6PM on the 3rd Wednesday every month at LeGarmache Catering.

Kitty and Robin, who both have bands, have done all of my fills and I have had no problems. I have gone twice to Arlington for my fill and twice to Port Orchard. They come to the Port Orchard Support Group every month and do fills there from 3PM to 6PM before the meeting starts. No appointment is needed, just show up early enough to fill out their information form before your fill. The charge $175 at Port Orchard.

Northwest Fill Management, Kitty and Robin, have their main office in Arlington and you can go there just about any day to have your fill done. But call first for an appointment because they may be somewhere else doing fills sometimes. Their location is easy to find, up I-5 to the Arlington Exit 208, east to the traffic circle, south out of the circle and an instant right into the parking lot of the pharmacy. Their "office" is inside the pharmacy at the back of the store. In Arlington, the first visit is $175 and subsequent visits for fills are $150 per visit.

I have no intereast in Northwest Fill Management except as a very satisfied patient. You can find them and all the details on line at Northwest Fill Management providing affordable lap-band fills for weight loss surgery patients.

I also recommend joining the Yahoo group PNW_Bandsters@yahoogroups.com to find out about Support Group meetings all over the Seattle-Tacoma area, the Olympic Peninsula, western Washington, and the whole Pacific Northwest area.

If you have not yet joined a support group, I highly recommend it as you will find caring support from some very nice people who have all been through the surgery (or are about to do so). The details for the Port Orchard Support Group are:

LeGarmache Catering

1327 Bay Street

Port Orchard, Wa 98366

360-895-0602

Both of the owners of LeGarmache have LapBands, too.

Good luck in your journey.

For the record, I am a retired 69 year-old man. Before the surgery, I weighed 294, and my goal is 205 pounds. Even my doctor does not think that I should go all the way to the ideal weight of 184 on the rather outdated height-weight chart on which ideal weights are based. My surgery was on April 16th 2008 and I have lost 58 pounds to date and weighed 236 yesterday. I have a 14cc band and am currently filled with 10.6cc.

Hello Lisa,

sorry I have not been on for a bit. This has been a very tough recovery month. My father-in-law passed away about 4 days after my surgery. Then the death of my brother a couple weeks ago and I also had the flu for 3 days. But things are gonna look up. So far I have lost 21 lbs but that was 9 from before band the rest after band. I saw Dr. Bock on the 23rd of Oct. he put in a small fill 1.4 or 1.5 something like that everything is going ok. Yes I am gonna try for the Nov meeting 6:30 right? How are you doing?

cindy, im so sorry for your loss, its been a ruff month for you.

I will be at the november meeting in federal way. I missed the last one cause of dental work.

I am doing ok. just trying to not let my hunger take control. I go in again thursday for another fill. I wasnt happy seeing the PA the last time. I made the appointment to see dr bock, but they have already called wanting to change it to the nurse julie. I need to call back and say i will see her but i dont want it switched yet again to the PA. I didnt like the fact that i had to talk him into a small fill last month. Seemed like i would have to gain weight before he believed that it was me and my control that had me loose a cpl pounds and that i have no restriction. but otherwise im good.. lost 4-5 pounds this month.

Anyone here have a prob eating barley? I know it is similar to rice. Just curious because have been eating beef and barley chili all week with no problems. Hoping i would be able to continue to eat it in future. not to bad for calories 263c a cup/19 protein/6 fat. its real simple to make if anyone wants the reciepe.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
