LOL. My BMI is about 61, too. I am 5' 5" and 356 lbs at my last doctor's visit. I relocated from Oregon to TX about 3 yrs ago. Maybe you're just MY long lost cousin.

Hopefully, we will soon begin to lose our resemblance to that other guy...

Slow & Steady - Slow & Steady.

I just got back from a seminar at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery Center in Everett. I've decided that that is indeed where I'm going to have my LapBand done. I'm making my appointment tomorrow as soon as their office opens! Since I had already done lots of research, I already knew 99% of the information they provided. Hearing the doc and other lap banders speak just made my decision to do this even stronger. I have no qualms whatsoever. It will cost over $17,000 but well worth saving or adding several more years to my life expectancy. With my age (56) and a BMI of 61, I have a strong probability of dying (any time!) I'm goin' for it! I'll keep you posted...

If I can get to 200 pounds I will be very happy....Ideally, I'd like to be about 155 (I don't feel I need to be bone thin.) I'm "supposed" to weigh about 120 but let me tell you...I'd be real happy...make that estatic if I could get down to 155!

Hi Boss,

I live in Tumwater, and you go do it!!! I can see my toes and put on my shoes and sorry, but wipe my own butt efficiently... I am down 108 pounds since my surgery on 4/15/05. I love my band.. It has given me back my life. I still have 50 more to go to have a Tummy Tuck, and thenI will be at goal kinda I think. Can't wait for you to get your band, you will love it...

How do you all figure how much you want to weigh? I don't want to be skinny, skinny. I want to look good and feel even better!!

Well, as the Dr. in the psych eval put it: think of your goal weight as you buying a house in Spokane. (we're on the west side of the state). First of all, let's just get to Spokane, then we'll work on finding the house.

In my case, we looked at what the weight range is for a "Normal" BMI and chose something in there. So we've set my goal at 150 for now, to be re-examined when I get there or close to there - above 157 I'd be "overweight" BMI again. I know before I gained all this weight, 130 was perfect for me at 5'5.5". (On my ticker I have 140 as my goal because my scale at home weighs me lower than the scale at the Dr. office.)

It's sad but true...wiping the butt (for some of us) is one heck of a time consuming and awkward chore! Sorry...that's pretty gross albeit true. I am soooo looking forward to that not being one of life's little problems!!!! Got my appointment today with the NWWLS nurse for Aug. 30th and with the NWWL surgery doctor on Sept 2nd and am waiting to hear back from the psychologist. I'm ready to roll!

Are you meeting with Dr. Evans for your psych eval? I met with her today, she is so nice! Wait til you see her "before" pics -- she looks nothing like them now.

Which surgeon are you going with, Dr. Watkins or Dr. Montgomery?

Its so weird, but a lot of us probably would not admit to the wipe thing, but I knew I wasn't the only one. And geez, I swear it happened overnight!!!

DVSAboss, you go girl. It won't be long now. I think that is why I liked Mexico, I only had to wait a week, but I needed my dd to go and she had to get time off, so I ended up waiting 3 weeks and found out I had diabetes during that time!!! Its in remission now, but scare the peedle out of me!! You will do so good, you wait.

Excellent news Pam! Okay, so I'm partial to NWWLS

It's so funny Molly that you and I are the same height, yet at 130 I would look ill. I'm shooting for a size 14, or a 12 in my wildest dreams. Probably 12 pants 14 top, since that sort of the way I'm built.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
