Hello everyone -

I have been off the forum for a few days - went back to work and it is draining me of all my energy out there. I just wrote a huge post on the may band post, poor people that have to read it but i felt I needed to get a lot out, dunno why. I still have another two weeks on my liquid diet but can now have yogurt, fruit etc blended in with my Protein Shakes. This has made them much tastier!!! I heard about this think called a magic bullet blender I am getting for my Protein shakes, I guess they work really well.

My port still hurts (more at night when I am tired) and I am tired tonite. Have to fly to reno for the day to tour so I will be walking ALL day. I am concerned I won't make it through the day but am bringing a bunch of protein mix to jelp me to get through the day.

Anyway I just wanted to say hi to everyone since this forum is the only place everyone understands the why's and how come's I did what I did.

I am exhausted.. take care everone amd I will be im touch!!!

A "Magic Bullet" is a must in my book. They run about $60 at costco. Comes with 5 or so "cups" that you blend in and drink out of. I picked up the same type thing made by "Cooks" at Penney's for $30. They work great! Blends protien drinks smooth & frothy. A little ice with the protien and you've got a shake. Blends in fruit or blending anythng to smooth, way easier to use & clean than a full size blender.

ljuht115...

I think our recovery is running parallel. I was at work until about 4:00 today and "hit the wall" One minute you're doing OK, the next you body says "OK, that's enough" and you can barely put one foot in front of the other. I came home and plopped in bed at 5:00, thinking I was done for the night, got a little rest then felt much better. I think I need a little nap at 3:00 each day...it's a nice thought anyway. The port soreness does get worse as the day goes, but that's a little better each day.

This too shall pass...won't be long and it will all be behind us.

Morning! Just checking in with you all. Still stuck on my plateau and it's really hard not to just eat everything in sight. I know why they call this banster hell . . . . .eveything goes down soooo easy . . . . .no restriction . . . . . . and if I had discipline in my eating then I wouldn't need this in the first place! I totally get why people gain weight during this and I guess I'm feeling good about holding it even considering. Anyone else here, three weeks out and waiting for a the first fill?

You're right.....Bandster hell. It's all part of the process.....ARgh. Hang in, you'll get your fill and away you'll go again.

LOVE my magic bullet.

OMYGOSH! This fill is tight! Good thing....but I barfed on my Protein Drink this am. Of course I was using it to chase down my meds, like I usually do. NEVER barfed a liquid before. It IS teaching me to eat smaller portions than I was and to REALLY chew things up.

HOW is everyone. I was the last to post since yesterday AM. Hope everyone is well.

My dogs rolled in poo right after I got home from having my hair done today so I had to get all sweaty and wet and bathe all FOUR of them.... Wrecked my hairdo......so I had to re-do it. Son in law went out and shoveled up the poo so they don't do it again....ick. We are all going to Dave's grampa's tonite for his dad's bd. Mom is making pie and ice cream. I'd better take my Protein mix and some green tea. Say a prayer for me. I WANT the pie....but like I said, the fill is really tight....and I don't want to barf.

Wierd dogs!!!

Just like kids, even when you finally get a moment to pamper yourself they have to find some way to bring you back down to earth.

Good luck with the pie tonight, protien drink isn't much of a consulation!

I have to say, I can't seem to get food off my mind today. Feeling very deprived. DH & i thought we'd go to a movie, but can't find anything to watch. Guess I'll have popcycle and go for a walk...yipee!?! grrrrrrr

Well - I now have my magic bullet and LOVE it! It should make the last two weeks of just my Protein Drinks (NOW WITH FRUITS =-) go by fairly quickly.

Did my business tour with my customer yesterday and boy was I pooped. Our warehouse tour was 2 hours alone in a 400,000 sq foot building. I would say I got my exercise. I was truly exhausted yesterday.

I am kinda on a plateau - I have been bouncing between 1-2 lbs and hope to get off that plateau this weekend.

Sue - I agree - I think we are on the same healing path. A co-worker told me her friend was banded and bounced back quickly. Sure is something that everyone is different, but my port paid keeps getting better each day.

I hope everyone is well and good luck this weekend. My hubby and I have the same Bday which is today. Normally we go out for a real nice dinner, wine and cocktails. Instead we went and saw a movie =-) What a sport!

Peace out!

Finally!!!! The scale moved 2 pounds and I am off the plateau. I was telling Sur last night that this weird thing happened yesterday while I was at Fred Meyers. I was pushing an empty shopping cart when I felt this bubble come up and burst right at my band, it was very painful and I had little stabbing pains in that area all night. This morning I am feeling a bit nauseus when I drink Fluid. I hadn't eaten for about 2 hours when this happened so I know it wasn't related to food. The only thing I can think it could be tied to is some gardening I did earlier in the day. Do you think I could of slipped my band or something?

Mer - how is the sewing going? My dog always finds the smelliest thing to roll in. She loves rotten fish and guts that the eagles leave after their feast. It's so gross! I walked on the treadmill at the YMCA this morning and when it reached 215 calories I thought I better stop or I would be negative numbers for the day. JK

Hello everyone,

Well 3 days till surgery. I can't believe that it's actually going to be here. It seemed so far away and now it's almost here!!! YEAH!! I've kind of come to peace with the clear liquid pre-op diet. I figure I better since it's the same (minus the Protein Shakes - yikes!!) for a couple of weeks after surgery. It's really strange though. I check my scale every day - which I know I probably shouldn't do- and even though I'm only getting about 450 calories a day, I've had a couple of days when I haven't lost anything. How is that possible???

You'd think that weight would just be dropping off!!!! It's kind of frustrating. Anyone else have this happen? Maybe I need to up my Water intake.

Also, I've had this pain in my left side to back for the last couple of days. Any ideas?? I could understand if it was my right since I have to have my gall bladder out. Could it be my kidney on that side?

Hope everyone is doing well. Everyone that had surgery a week to two ago sounds really good now. It's encouraging to us about to go through it.

Take care.

Dawn

dawneb...

I am continually amazed that we can take in so few calories, but the wieghtloss will sometimes stall. It's hard to figure out what your body is living off of. I guess it shows how resilient our bodies are and how well it can protect itself in hard times. I just keep reminding myself that it is coming off and that's what counts. It took me years to put my body in this shape, it's going to take some time to reverse what I've done.

I get a little frustrated with other people who know I've had surgery and don't realize it's not the easy quick way out. It still takes dieting, exercize and alot of hard work inside and out to make progress...yipee for us, we're on our way!!! :girl_hug:

Hello Girls,

The dogs are all nice and clean and fluffy now. No new incidents. We're sewing like crazy, buy today is Bec and Rod's first anniversary so they went off to Leavenworth for the day. No sewing...

Wendy, I wonder if what went "plop" in your tummy was in your intestines? The last little bend down to the "end" is right under the port. I certainly had lots of interesting "movement" there at times in the beginning (still do at times - LOL) I'm hoping it's nothing serious for you. Dr. Hirai told me it's extremely unusual for a band to slip.

As for weight not moving.....makes me nuts, too.....or weight going up....oh man. I don't know what it is. Sometimes I can be up 2 lbs for seemingly no reason at all.....I don't know. It can't be calories because it would take an extra 7000 calories to be up 2 lbs. So it must be our metabolisms adjusting? At least we all seem to be headed downward in general. That's the good thing.

Dawneb - when your weight stalls then remeasure with the tape. Hopefully you took measurements all over your body before you started your pre-op. When I had a three day stall I got out my tape and found that I had still lost inches. sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me motivated. My last plateau lasted two weeks and that was a real hard thing to deal with but I can tell by my clothes that things are still changing. We all lose weight differently. Some of us drop and hang for a while and others lose slow and steady.

I'm feeling somewhat normal again, don't know what the pain was all about but if it comes back I will go see the doc. Thanks for being concerned.

Hello all,

My name is Celeste and I live in Bremerton, my is consult coming up on the 19th at the NWWLS and Dr. Watkins. I'm excited and hope all goes well for me, as it has seem to go for all of you.

Just wanted to say thank you for the 47 pages of insight and personal thoughts on pre-op and post-op reactions. It seems everyone has had a little different experience. I loved hearing the positives given to those who were soon to have the surgery and for those encouraging words to the few who had yet to make up their minds on the best way to lose weight.

Again, thank you so much, all your words have made so many question I had or hadn't even thought of, more clear.

I'll let you all know when my surgery count down day starts!!

Hey Caolin! I am usually kind of inactive on this thread because everyone seems to be in the Tacoma area these days. Welcome!

I am in Bremerton, too! We have a cute little support group that meets once a month in Silverdale at the Old Town Bistro. PM (Private Message) me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
