Not Again- I Hit That Wall Hard

Recommended Posts

I am all cried out :cryin:. Today was the straw that broke the camels back. I think it is time for me to throw in the towel. I will always be trap in this body. I will live a life of bad health. No matter what diet I try or how much exercise I do this is it for me. I am stuck with this. I don't see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or the silver lining in the clouds. I have been jumping hoops since I started this journey.

This morning I got a call from the PA and was told that my urine test show that I have blood in the urine. She wants me to repeat the test today and have a CT of my kidneys to rule out stones. If they find stones I need to see the urogolist. I won't find out till the last minute and I am ten days away from my surgery. The CT will be on the 2/1/12 and I won't find out until the 2/3/12 and My surgery is on 2/6/12. I have already started a pre-op diet. :frown2:

I was told to be happy that I am not gaining weight so continue eating the pre-op diet and exercise 5 times a week at least 3hours a day. And then you may see the weight come off. So I need to work out for an hour in the morning,at lunch and before I go to bed. So that is what I am going to do I have no choice. I guess I was right when I said my name should be NEVERFORME.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. They sent me to the urologist and they did an ultrasound of my kidneys. All of the tests and hoops are there to make sure that your body can handle the stress of surgery. Even though I had blood in my urine they still cleared me for surgery and all has been fine.

Don't stress too much about it and ask the surgeon's office if this is something that you should be concerned about - I would even ask if anyone has ever had surgery cancelled or postponed due to kidney issues. That might put your mind at ease.

Good luck!

I want to thank you for your kind words. But the hurt is to big now. I was told if they find stones they will moves the surgery to another date. Where I am it takes at least three months to see a specialist and then about another month of taking meds and jumpping thru hoops. I have not been able to work.

I am starting to develope a fear for doctors because when I go they always find something wrong. Another thing to add to my list of illness I have.

Neverforme like always

Lilu, I had blood in my urine and kidney stones in my pre-op testing. I was prescribed extra Water and an antibiotic. My surgery was pushed back two weeks because of blood clot issues. I DO understand how frustrating it is to feel like you're bouncing between doctors. I was totally frustrated when told I'd have to have a surgery before my VSG and another after my VSG to install, then remove, a filter in my Vena Cava.

However, I did get sleeved within 2 weeks of my original surgery date and I made it through both of the extra surgeries. When they pulled the filter, it HAD caught two clots, so those extra surgeries saved my life. My point here is that the doctors are trying to make sure they have protected you as much as possible before they do your sleeve. Yeah, it's a PITA to have to keep jumping through hoops, but it WILL be worth it when you make it through surgery and start dropping weight.

(((Lilu))) Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow and your doc will call with news that makes this all seem somewhat easier. Good luck!!

Lissa! I'm thankful that you have such a caring and competent surgeon. You seem like a wonderful person, and are such an encouragement to others. Glad you're healthy!

Why are they waiting so long on the CT scan? I had kidney stones back in April and knew the same day. The told me to drink tons and tons of liquids to help it pass. Long story short, ended up having a renal stent to help my body heal, but that was only for a 4 days. ANDDDD if you are found to have stones, a urologist will see you immediately! Try not to let this discourage you! YOU WILL HAVE YOUR DAY!!

Oh my dear I'm soooo sorry to hear about this!! Big big hugs!!! Keep your chin up if you can. I know easier said than done - just know that I am over here praying for you.

Question, if you do need some kind of surgery for you other than your sleeve would it be something they can do at the same time? It is not unheard of for patients to have multiple surgeries alongside the sleeve. It seems like it would even be better because one surgery is certainly safer than two.

Please keep us updated on how you're doing.!!! Xox

Lissa, I'm thankful you have a caring and competent surgeon too, considering he is also mine!!! LOL Seriously though, every time I read something about Dr. D I feel more and more that I made the perfect decision to go with him :o)

Lilu, I am so sad to see how much you are hurting because of this - I know I would feel the same as you even if I knew it was for the greater good in the long run. I read a quote from a poster this week that was something like "Keep your goal in mind and the bumps in the road won't matter" and I have thought back to that many times since. I think it is fitting for you too - I know it seems impossibly hard to stay positive right now and believe that it will, in fact, happen. My surgery can't come fast enough (I don't have a date and am so anxious to move forward I can't hardly stand myself!) so I know how frustrating more obstacles must be but really think about what the other posters have said. You want to be your healthiest for surgery and look at Lissa's situation - the extra time and hoops literally saved her life by preventing those clots from circulating. Keep coming here for support and answers to your questions - we will all get through it, one day at a time!

Thanks again for all the kind words. And to answer some questions, It is hard to postponed this again because it has been push back for months now and going on for over a year now adding on new doctors and new meds. Not even my pcp doctor found this lates problem. I have been out of work since sept 2010 and was hoping to be healther by now. So my family and have been talking if this is not done by May then I will have to put this on the back burning and take all the meds I need and get back to work.

And to see the urologist I was told it is a two month wait even if they find stones. Because I don't have any pain or discomort and no infection I can wait. So with all the bad news ahead I really don't believe I will have the surgery on 2/6/12. So thank you very much for your well wishes and prayers but this one slip thru my hands for now.

Lilu, you can never give up hope because without hope where would we all be? Don't let these hoops win, show them who is boss...I've been reading on this forum for sometime now and am going for my info seminar the first of February. I wasn't sure that this surgery was for me but after reading the post her and hearing how all these AMAZING people care and support each other, I know that if I have any concerns or second thoughts that there are people that will understand how I feel. Listen to the people on here and use their support to help you through this and in the end it will have been so worth all the hoops!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
