Surgery Recovery Pain?

Recommended Posts

Is the surgery recovery similar to a c-section, pain-wise?

For me? No, this is much better. I have had two c-sections and the pain from this surgery is much less. While I am still sore (muscle wise), I was in much more pain after the birth of my kids. I think it also helps that after this surgery I am not waking up every 2 hours at night, breast feeding a baby and experiencing the baby blues too! Lol!! :)

Ha - I was thinking there was no way it could be as painful as a C-section. LOL

I think it is less than a c-section. I spent three nights in the hospital with my c-section. The big difference is you don't have a brand new baby and all the attention and care focused away from yourself with this surgery. The worst think I remember from my c-section was the spinal!

The sleeve incisions closest to my bellybutton were the most uncomfortable for me but they are'nt bad at all. Nothing compared to carying a baby!

I had very minimal pain... hardest part for me was not being able to sleep on my side.I never had a c-section, so I couldn't compare the two.

I had 2 c-sections as well and the recovery discomfort after the vsg for me was much less. Getting up and down out of bed wasnt anywhere as tricky compared to after a c-section. In the hospital after my vsg I used a hot water bottle on my stomach which helped alot and I only took pain meds once and that was for my left shoulder which hurt due to the gas that they pump into your abdomin to do the procedure. It was a weird side effect but I was told it was pretty common. Dont worry. The pain or discomfort is very managable for most people.

I am glad to hear this as I cannot take any narcotic pain medication. I had a C section also and thought that recovery was pretty darn painful.

I had two csecs and the recovery from those were much worse I think. Though for some reason at day three post op my pain increased. But overall much easier than a c sec.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
