Diabeties And Pre-Op Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have been reading the forums here for about six months, going to my info seminar the first of February. I'm going to ask this question at the seminar but was wondering if anyone here had this issue. I'm an insulin type 2 diabetic and was wondering how you handled it with the pre-op diets. Did your sugars fall really low? Also, I have loose skin already from some weight loss and was wondering if I should expect this to get much worse? I know there will be some loose skin, just wondering how bad it will be. I'm already fairly active, exercising everyday. Thanks for the help and I plan on keeping up with this site through my journey. All of you are very inspirational!

My sugars have been ok on the pre op diet. Just get low sugar or sugar free Protein Drinks and meals. Ask at the seminar and tell them you are diabetic. I'm sure they can recommend some proper things for you specifically.

Hi Misha and thanks for the response, I appreicate it. I was worried that my sugars might fall to low while I'm on the pre-op diet. I'm sure my doctor will recommend the right thing, was just curious about how it affected other diabetics. I hope you are doing well on your pre-op....what have been your biggest challenges so far? Thanks, Robin

My biggest challenge is not caving in and eating something bad for me. Knowing that this may be the last time I can eat solids for a while after surgery has certainly been mind blogging. I have been craving bad foods! It's hard not to cave in. We just have to remember this is to help us with our weight and our diabetes

I agree with you on how hard it is. But you have come to far now to cave in. I wish I was that close to having the surgery. Don't forget where you are headed and it is a good place and what you do now will make it a lot easier in the long run. Please keep me posted on how you are doing, You can be an inspiration to me along my way! :banane58:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
