Caloric Intake Too Low?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying desperately trying to get a bottle of Isopure in while i'm on my first week of Clear Liquids. I'm also drinking a bottle of Water and i had a sugar free ice pop. That leaves me at under 200 calories a day. To be fair i only got out of the hospital yesterday. I'm going to try and have some chicken broth too, but it's not like that will add too much bulk. I've also been doing laps around my house. Am I getting enough calories in? Should I even be worried about that for this first week? I don't want to shut down in starvation mode. Thanks for any ideas and help!

If you're getting even that much in, I think you're doing great! Absolutely don't worry about it for this week. Focus on getting in your Water and on walking and resting. There's plenty of time in the near future to focus on advancing your diet. Sip and walk and rest.... let your tummy heal. Congratulations on your sleeve!! Will be watching to see your progress as you go through this fantastic transformation!

Yea Im two weeks post op but only getting around 300 cals in a day...no worries though I don't feel it. Living on Vitamins and the energy from the "B" vitamins keep me charged up. Living on reserves and vitamins has helpped me lose over 30 pounds in two weeks. Good luck with those Isopure drinks..I HATE THEM...I moved over to the Gatorade recovery's which have Protein in them and taste much better!

Hydration is the most important thing for you right now, you're doing great! You will slowly be able to get more fluids in. Then a little later you can start focusing on the Protein intake. Congrats on being sleeved!

Yes, you're hearing the right things here. Hydration trumps caloric intake while you heal. It took me several months to hit my daily nutritional goals of 80+ grams of Protein and 800 calories a day.

Eventually you'll get there. Right now focus on getting 64 oz. of liquids in each day and taking it easy while you heal.

If you were heavy enough for surgery, I promise you won't starve to death in the few weeks you'll have such a limited intake. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
