Vitamins And Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I was sleeved on 11/23/11 and so far have lost 32lbs. According to me I am slow looser and hit a stall at about 4 weeks out, but then the scale started moving down again but veryyyyyyyy sloooowwwwly. Now, I have an issue with taking Multivitamins, for some reason they ALL make me sick and nauseous. I talk with my NUT and she suggested start taking the Gummy vit, even though they are not her favorites. Now, here is my question: would Vitamins intake affect your weight loss? It seems like ever since I stopped taking them (I know I am horrible! but my poor stomach can’t hold them) I been having problems loosing weight.

I feel cheated and disappointed that I will never be able to reach my weight goal, and went through this huge surgery to only loose 30lbs??!!

I’ve also been craving all kinds of bad foods especially carbs! And I am exhausted! I am dragging my feet. I was feeling so good at the beginning and now I feel like I am taking steps back.

Please help! I would appreciate any feedback, I’m really getting desperate.

Thanks everyone!

Are you logging your intake at all? Believe me, intake is the majority of any weight loss program. I highly doubt Vitamins has anything to do with the equation. That is mostly just general health.

IMO, find a way to start logging your foods, calories, Proteins, carbs, sodiums, sugars and very importantly as well - your Fluid intake. Water is a huge factor in weight loss. The more you drink the more you will lose. Also, how are your calories out? Are you working out in any way? I cannot stress this enough, if it weren't for my workouts I wouldn't be nearly as successful. Not only that, I may look good IN my clothes, but I also look without too. :wink1:

A few suggestions are My Fitness Pal and Livestrong. I use both when I'm diligently on the path to losing fat, inches and weight.

Does the Fitness Pal thing have a place for logging water/liquid intake?

I have only signed up 5 days ago and haven't started logging my food. I did however find a spot where you can choose what MFP will log for you and Water was an option. So I believe so, and I know that Livestrong does.

I had my surgery on 11/9/11. My loss is a few pounds more than yours, and I also hit a stall of about 4 weeks. I started drinking Protein at least 2-3 times per day and drinking more Water and the weight started moving again. I had the same issue with Vitamins. My surgeon suggested gummies (multi and fiber)---every since I started I feel great. I also add tastless powder Benefiber to my Protein Shake in the morning. Don't stress too much about what we see as slow----Next year this time we will look back and say "WoW, I can't believe this is my new body"....vitamins are very very important as we are not getting all of our nutrients. You really want your bloodwork to remain as close to normal as possible. With me, I have to have complete bloodwork every 3 months for a year. I don't want any B12, anemia, Iron deficiency issues--I just don't want any issues. Do what you can to to find a Gummy adult multi Vitamin. Blessings2u--bj

Getting my Vitamins in is a etruggle, but I am making it happen b/c it is very important to my health. I get nauseated from them too so I take gummies, liquid Calcium, liquid Iron so there are fewer pills. When I have the cramps, I use liquid tylenol. Taking pills early in the day is out of the question. I do better with them at night, after my sleeve is more "warmed up." And I always take my pills with food. These are the things helping me thus far. I am always keeping my eye out for tips from others. Taking pills has been and remains a big pain since I got sleeved. That and my inability to tolerate whey Protein, but that's anoother story.

Have you tried taking them at night right before bed?

This is what I do to all my Vitamins because I take Synthroid. You aren't supposed to have Iron or zinc within 4 hours of ingesting T4. So I just take everything at night.

Maybe someone else who is post op can chime in on taking Vitamins at night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
