Can I just tell you all how sick I am of focusing on eating all day long!! I wake up and my first thought is “I’ve got to take my meds and supplements”. Then I have a Protein Shake in the car on the way to work. Then I have to wait to drink. Don’t forget to put Fiber in the fluids for an easier bowel movement. Then I drink my fluids, but watch out, I have to stop drinking ½ an hour before my mid-morning snack. And be sure to include Protein with that. Oh, now to wait ½ an hour before I can start my fluids. Oops! Forgot my Calcium. Hurry and take that because you have to take it with food to absorb better. Ok. Now I can drink. Don’t forget fiber. Don’t forget to sip, don’t forget to sip, don’t forget to sip. But be sure to stop ½ hour before lunch. And make sure it includes protein. And don’t forget to take your Vitamins and sublingual B-12. Ok, wait ½ an hour to drink. Ok now drink, but stop ½ an hour before mid-afternoon snack. Don’t forget fiber. Don’t forget to sip, don’t forget to sip, don’t forget to sip. Ok, have a snack. Oh, and don’t forget the calcium. Ok. Now wait ½ an hour to drink. Ok, drink, drink, drink. Have I had 32 ounces? Yes. Good. Ok, now go home. Then spend all night concentrating on food and liquids while trying to take care of the household! And don’t forget the Iron before bed. My entire day is nothing but thinking of eating and drinking! And forget weekends. Weekends don’t have a set schedule. So getting all my fluids, food and supplements accomplished is even worse. I mean seriously, my whole life is scheduled around this. I feel like a junkie or something trying to get my “fixes” all day long. And it’s not like I can just do something else. I’m forced to take care of myself in this manner. Yes, I knew this going in, but reality is different from how you think something will happen. I carry a case of Water and Protein Shakes in my car, and Protein Bars in my purse. You’d think I was preparing for a disaster. I am 5 weeks and 3 days out. Does this ever get better? How do you guys manage your daily schedule?

Thanks for the post! You more or less wrote up what's on the big post-it note on my work computer....so I make sure that I get everything in on a day. Totally agree that weekends are a bit harder because you aren't in a set routine. I just believe it will become more routine the more that we do it. I'm a week behind you. We can do it! But I sure do know where you are coming from :-). I spend more time thinking about food now than I did before surgery.

Ha Ha!. Don't mean to laugh, but you perfectly described a typical day in my life too. But, I don't worry about my supps and meds and take everything at night with my Water, 1/2 hour after I eat of course.

I'm almost 5 months out and it's all routine to me now.

I'm with Lissa. I'm only about 9 weeks out and all that seems like a distant past. I only have 3 meals a day-no Snacks. So when I wake up I figure out what my timeing for the day will be. I take my pills twice a day (although my surgeon only has me on 1 multi and 1 Calcium, but I have other meds). With Breakfast and at night.

I carry Water around with me all day and thankfully no longer need to sip. I can just take a drink.

Things got much more normalized once I was on a full diet-which for me was 4 weeks. A lot easier to plan your eating.

It gets SO much better - I promise! After awhile you sort of get a routine down, and it's more or less automatic. The first couple of weeks while I was still at home, I had to have a chart to keep track of everything!

Hang in there, the fun part is definitely coming!

favordone, I use Nature's Bounty sublingual B-12 that I got from Amazon. It is cherry flavored. It dissolves easily under the tounge and tastes great!

Yay! I can drink after my shake! That gives me more time.

I totally agree with this, it's so funny! We are still obsessing about what goes in our mouths, but in a different way.

I am only 5 weeks out and although I can have solids this week, I am taking it really slow. Since I am still on a lot of Protein supplements, and only "eat" maybe twice a day, I don't worry so much about drinking before/after meals.

I wake up, take my thyroid pill on an empty stomach with some Powerade Zero with Benefiber added. sleep a little more, take my multi-Vitamin. Two hours later, take my Calcium. Later in the day, take my multi, two hours later, take my Calcium.< /p>

The one thing that absolutely will change is that I will go back to my liquid Vitamins and supplements after I run out of the bariatric Vitamins. The vitamins upset my stomach and they are huge.

Another thing I am starting to do is drink prune juice and V8 and/or Snap E Tom. They have a bit of Fiber and vitamins and even a little Protein. And, they help with regularity.

But yes, it is tiring keeping up with it all.

One product I highly recommed is the Premier Protein ready-made shake (I get from costco, but have seen it at Sam's now too). 30 grams of protein in a 11.5 oz carton makes it so much easier to get the protein in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
