Surgery Scars For Band Revision To Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anybody had any input on their scars from revision surgery. I still have visible scars from being banded and didn't know if I was going to get new scars for the sleeve revision. Do the doctors try to follow the same scars or do you get new ones? I just don't want my belly marked up more than it was before. I mean my tummy already looks hidious, but I certainly don't want it to looks worse. I know fat is worse than scars, but just wanted some input.

:smile1: Anybody?

I accidentially posted this in the general forum but maybe someone here can answer?

I asked Dr. Rodriguez this just last night since I have the six scars from my band removal and the open scar from my band. He said that he DOES try to use old scars when possible. He said his cuts are 3-5mm if he has to make new ones.

I would ask your surgeon just to make sure. :)

Thanks for replying. I figured maybe they could use the same area, but I didn't know if the scar tissue would make it more difficult. I have surgery tomorrow, so I will ask my doctor when I'm there. So excited to get his band removed I won't be able to sleep tonight!

@HBskinny - Yes ask your Surgeon. Mine did not use the same scars. I've got 10 scars all over my stomach. I mean, its not really a big deal to me or my Hubby - but I'm sure it could be for some others.

Good question.

I've wondered about that too. Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. Let us know how you're doing after your surgery.

i was revised from band to sleeve a week ago, unfortunately they did not follow the old scars, there are new ones just above or below the old, but i really dont care, its the least of my worries.

I have had my band surgery (6 scars) then revision when the band slipped plus hiatal hernia repair(7 more) and now the sleeve and band removal and another hernia repair (7 more). That is 20 right! I look like I lost a knife fight....but I would do it again.

On the relevance scale, being healthy outweighs surgery scars every time.

I talked to Dr Kelly and he said that he was able to use the same incision marks as before and that he always tries to do this on everybody. I know it should be the least of my worries, but one day I would really love to wear a 2 piece bikini ;)

I just had my band removed last friday and apart from one incision just above a little tiny old scar my doctor used the same scars to remove my band.. i hope when i get the sleeve he will use the same ones again, but if not all good,, . just a question to anyone else out there that has hand band removal, did anyone suffer pain in left front shoulder especially when you breath in too deeply??? its quite painfull at times.. cheers

That pain is referred pain from your diaphragm. They say it is from the gas. Try a heating pad. It will go away.

Dr. Aceves used my lapband scars to revise me :) His incisions were about 1/3 the size of my lapband ones too.. it didn't matter that much to me, but he did nice work :)

I wanted to update my scar outcome....

Dr. Rodriguez wasnt able to use the scars from my band removal but I will say that his 4 cuts are far more nice and clean looking than the 6 cuts Dr. Primomo did here in the US!

Keep Rockin' that Sleeve!!!!

I asked my physicians assistant if they would be able to use the scars from my lap band, he said not if it would compromise the vsg surgery. I really love my scars from my lapband surgery...3 small ones and the larger one in my belly button. . but I'll be fine with new ones :)

My only reused scar was my port scar. The new incision on it is about 1/3 of the scar size. The picture below was taken when I got home from the hospital. I added lines just above the actual incisions to show you where mine are at. Lpaband scars are in red. Sleeve incisions are in blue. Ignore the gross tummy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
