Free2B 8 Posted January 24, 2012 Today I am having a total knee replacement on my left leg, just one day before my three-month sleeviversary. My knee surgeon is delighted that I have lost about 55 pounds since I saw him last summer (27 pounds on pre-op diet, 28 pounds since surgery). Since I have been unable to exercise after the sleeve surgery, I am looking forward to being able to get walking again over the next few months and hopefully my weight loss will pick up a little bit. I've been losing about 1.5 pounds per week since I started solid foods, which is certainly acceptable, but tries one's patience! It will be interesting to me to see the differences in recovery from the two surgeries so close together. I think I'm a little less scared this time and am hoping I won't have complications like I did with the sleeve. This is the last big step in my grand plan to regain health and mobility. Hooray for me! :smile1: P.S. I have been unable to find a forum as wonderful as this one that pertains to knee replacements - you are all the greatest! Like you, it was my grand plan as well. Lose the weight and see how my knee is. So after losing 52 pounds before surgery and 31 pounds after, the knee isn't going to get better. So I am sceduled for a knee replacement on March 19th. However, my plans aren't working out like I had planned. I have rheumatold arthritis, and a month after my WLS, I have gone into the biggest flare I've ever had. So now I don't think I can get it done on that date. My rheumy will probably want me to wait until I get my RA under control. P.S.. And I've had to go on prednisone as well. UGH.....that makes you gain weight! Major UGH In any case, I wish you much luck!! Please, let me know how it goes with your knee. How the PT and all that!! I see people now all the time with them and you cannot tell they've had a knee replacement at all because they walk perfectly!!!

I am having my right knee done either late this year or early next. It's just too far gone to be saved. My sleeve/gall bladder surgery was a breeze. Both orthos I've talked to said TKR's are as hard as surgery recovery gets but that they've not had a single patient who regretted having it does. Sound familiar? :purplebananna: That's you a few months from now. Good luck and give updates!
Knee2010 54 Posted January 25, 2012 Free2B, I had my right knee replaced Feb 2010, (a motorcycle accident in 2009). Anyway, at that time I had found the following webite and I used it like crazy to gather information and talk to other "knee" people. healthboards.com The website has all kinds of health topics to pick from, just scroll down until you come to the knee section and go to that area. It really helped me alot to be able to talk to people who had already had theirs replaced. It's a lot like this site. Very helpful with a lot of good people. Hope this helps.
