6 Days Post Op And Having Diarrhea Issues

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery last Wednesday. My surgeon said I can start full liquids now. It just seems like every single thing that goes in comes out within about 10 minutes. Is this normal?? Sorry that this is TMI for some people!!! I have also been getting lightheaded. I was thinking that is just because the lack of Protein the first few days??

I experienced the same thing. I am now having the opposite happening now. I think the loose stools are due to all of the Clear Liquids and your body adusting to the change from the surgery. I would rather have things pass through than the other alternative, because I feel that when I don't go like I should it hinders my wt. loss.

Yes, I had the same thing the entire week of clear liquids, and even a couple days after when I moved to full liquids. I figured liquid in, liquid out! I also was completely worn out and sometimes lightheaded by the end of that first week. The diarrhea does go away once you move to mushies and solid food. And bit by bit your energy will return. Hang in there!

I had diarrhea because I became lactose intolerant after surgery. Perhaps try avoiding milk and dairy for a day or two and see if it improves?

Yes it is very common to have all those symptoms. It will get better and your body has gone through a LOT! so just be patient with yourself.

Here is the question though? Is it good to go or not go? I havent went in seven days. The changes our body is adjusting to is incredible.

You are a rock star and you WILL make it through. PS- There is a youtube video with Dr. Aceves (Mexico's sleeve guru?) talking about diarrhea and "going to the bathroom after VSG". Sorry to be so blunt, but we're all in this together!

Thanks for the replies!! I am glad to know I am not alone with it. I thought I knew what all to expect but I guess there is a lot to learn!

I did just try a little Tomato Soup and it went RIGHT through me.....I think I am going to take your advice and try to go with lactose free stuff for a couple days!!!

Same problems for me as well. It went on for six weeks and then we realized I was having intolerance issues with the Protein drinks. My body doesn't not do well on them at all! I have finally found some that work for me, but I focus now on getting my Protein needs met through my food.

Hang in there! It will improve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
