Mindless Eating Causes Big Trouble

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was eating mindlessly and paid for it big time! I wasn't eating the wrong foods, just not mindful while I was eating the right foods. I was multi-tasking and didn't pay attention to taking small bites and chewing, chewing, chewing. Ouch that was painful and I did it 3 times yesterday! I had a pot roast in the slow cooker for dinner. I'm not sure if my sleeve doesn't like pot roast or if I just didn't chew well. But that round of mindless eating resulting in significant pain, my first episode of the slimes and laying in bed for 2 hours. I will not repeat that! I'm 5 weeks out - think today I will stick to mushies.

I don't think I am even going to try red meats until I am atleast 3 months out. I rarely eat them now because they make me sick. Yeah I work offshore where they try and feed you steak and potatoes 4 times a week. I am just burnt out on it lol

But I have noticed on this board and others that meats are pretty rough. I already know that I am a Protein powder type of guy anyways.

Whats the best way to describe the slimes?

Five weeks was way too early for me to eat beef - I waited until 3 months. I tried it about the time you did, and had the same result. After 3 months, I loved a pot roast cooked in the crock pot.

Mindless eating (even the "right" foods) is a trap I still have to avoid at 11 months. It is my life-long solace - my "crutch". I have to be vigilent to keep from slipping into that trap.

Goodness, I am so sorry you had such an awful experience. I guess I am fortunate, I have been able to eat anything I want without a problem since four weeks out. I am a little lactose intolerant, but other than that, no issues unless I eat too much, then it comes right back up on me.

Ouch, sorry to hear. Roast beef still does that to me--you're probably going to be able to eat it just fine in a couple of months. Try it again after a few weeks. :-)

The slimes are when you feel way too full or like you can "feel" the food in your stomach, and your body begins to produce excess mucus and saliva--your mouth waters like nobody's business. It's all in preparation for easing the food's way back out of your body, if you get my drift... and then frequently, when you are finally sick, there's a bubble or two of that material that preceds your food on the way out.... ick, sorry if graphic, but you did ask about the slimes. They're not fun.

Wow, yeah, 5 weeks and red meat ... I was still on mushies. Just started red meat a month ago and can only do about 3 bites before I am STUFFED!

Mushies for me until I see the doc on Feb. 2nd. I can't imagine trying to eat pot roast right now. The slimes sound like the vomiting I did with a too-tight and slipped Band. Absolutely disgusting, and I did it about 2 - 3 times a week. No slimes with the sleeve yet, and I hope I never have them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
