Egg Drop Soup

Recommended Posts

Can you eat egg drop Soup during the early stages post-op? I'm talking about that soup commonly found at Chinese restaurants made from chicken broth with wisps of beaten egg thru it. I love this stuff and could easily see myself being content with it. Any thoughts?

Cosmic, I ate egg drop Soup, WITHOUT the eggs, a few days post op. I loved chicken broth during my liquids phase, so it was wonderful, but I didn't eat the eggs until I got to full liquids. If you can tolerate it, it's fine to drink. You should be aware, though, that many chinese restaurants make egg drop soup with a lot of sodium and with MSG. For me, MSG can cause headaches, so be sure to ask the restaurant if they use it in their soup. Mine doesn't use MSG in the soup, for which I am very grateful!!

Good luck!

Egg drop is a friendly Soup. Hot and sour is a little antagonistic. I just brought it back up, my first rejection since my surgery, It could be that I ate it too fast, though.

Hot and sour was my dear friend during chemo therapy, the only food that tasted right.

I ate some egg drop Soup last night I was fine. I ate little more today and now I regret it. My stomach is felling not to good. I am one week post op today on full liquid and having difficulty finding variety. I am getting so bored.

I am so glad to see this post! I am still preop and had some egg drop Soup the other night and it started me wondering if I might be able to eat it postop, both for the liquid and Protein properties! I hope I will be able to tolerate it as I love the stuff! Will have to check on the MSG though.....hadn't thought of that before.

Egg drop Soup goes down so easy that it is easy to eat too much. Be sure to put the portion in a lttle bowl and don't go back and get more. :)

I can get a quart for $2.75 and it lasts for a week. Gets you out of the Cambells rut.

Egg drop Soup duly noted. I was curious myself about this. But as far as hot and sour. That made me hurl and that was 2 years ago. Maybe I will give it another go around in 3 weeks after my op.

If you are on full liquids here are some ideas.

My faves, so far, are:

half a can Fat free broccoli/cheese soup, made with Water, blended with a slice or 2 of fat free cheese (to raise the protein)

half a can of fat free cream of celery, made with Water, blended with a half a can of chunk white tuna.< /p>

These take me an hour to eat, stuff kinda trickles slowly into my tummy, and leave me quite full and satisfied.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
