Meds Are Stuck! Help Needed Now! Please!

Recommended Posts

7 weeks post op and I haven't had to crush my mess for probably 3 weeks or so. I took mine tonight and I swear something is stuck. I am hurting! It's a stuck, painful kind of burning. It hurts from my stomach all the way up epecially behind my breast bone. I've tried more Water, yogurt, burping with diet coke, and my husband tried to sort of heimlich it out of me to no avail. I tried throwing up and I can't. What do I do? I've had no problems thus far. Is this even possible? Do I need to go to the ER?

Yes. In my opinion you should seek attention immediately. Do not allow anyone else to attempt anything near a heimlich on you again.

From what I've been told, if something feels stuck, it will pass. Walk around a bit, and it will eventually dissolve and go down. Drinking and eating to "push" it down are only harmful, and can scratch or injure your esophagus, from what I've been told.

At 7 weeks post op, you're still healing, so some swelling will be present.

If it still has not passed, definitely head to the ER!

For future purposes, try taking your meds in capsule or liquid form instead.

I am post op 6 weeks and I still take all of my medications with a teaspoon of applesauce. I put the pills in the applesauce and it they are larger I take them one at a time. I have not had any problems with taking any of my meds. Please do not let anyone do any sort of pushing on your stomach as you just had recent surgery. If in doubt go see the doctor.

I had a nurse tell me to thump on my chest if anything got caught and that should help dislodge it and it'll fall down. I've not had to try that yet thankfully. I hope you're feeling better!

drink hot tea and that should make it feel better. It may not still be stuck, but has that feeling because it was stuck. You should keep papaya enzymes around. They are great for disolving things that do feel stuck and make your tummy feel better.

Following up? Hope all is well - my Hubby gets things "stuck" sometimes and we were warned that it can trigger a situation that evein if it is too small to obstruct breathing if it came up a bit and went back down it could get into your airway - or you could produce mucus that could drain into the lungs - and in extreme cases it has been known to cause Fluid build up in the lungs and can be fatal.

It is a horrible feeling - never had it myself but hubby has several times. Scares me to death!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
