Third Week - Having Problems With Solids Again?

Recommended Posts

I am almost three weeks out and all of a sudden I am having problems keeping solids down. I can take about 3 sips of Protein shake or Water or other liquids, but any food I eat just comes back up. I have not eaten solids for several days now because I am afraid of throwing it back up again.

I was eating fine at 2 weeks, eating about 3 tablespoons of food at a time. But it seems as if my stomach wants me to start all over again. Anybody else having problems like this? What are your suggestions?

what types of foods are you eating that keep coming back up. I was not eating solid foods at 3 weeks post op. Just curious as to what your diet says that you are to be eating. I was on pretty much baby food and cream Soups.< /p>

My first week was liquid stage 1, second week liquid stage two, so starting after the second week I could have mushy food for 3 weeks. In fact, at my 2 week checkup my doc said I could have just about anything, as long as I chewed it real good and ate very slowly. I was having LeSeur peas, canned Soups like bean and split pea, not much more than that. I threw up the peas last night, but I think I ate too much. I think as long as I have fewer than 3 tablespoons I am OK. When I eat more than that it comes back up. Does that sound about the right amount of food to eat at a time?

Are you experiencing pain or fever?

I am almost 3 weeks out and have had to regress back to much thinner foods too.

I did have an episode with a Soup having more sugars than I anticipated, be careful with your sugars (not carbs, sugars).

At 3 weeks I had just moved to mushies per my doctor/nut....I could not eat more than about 1/4 c which is probably about 3 Tbsp. If I did eat too fast I would get an upset stomach. I only got sick once and that was enough. Just slow down in eating and as you noted, this happens when you eat more so stop at the 3 Tbsp. I know that you can't wait to move to the next stage of food but just listen to your body and it will guide you. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
