You cannot be turned away from most ERs, but here in Houston there are private care ER's that usually take most insurance - they are more attentive in general. We keep our medical info with one just down the road, and it came in uber handy when my husband had an emergency.

I am not advocating it, but you can get an IV set up through a mdeical supply and IV yourself. You are only administering a basal Fluid (I think I said that right) so gravity or light pressure will work.

Start emailing your conversations with your doctor, and be very specific that the email is intended to be addressed by the surgeon and all other parties that may be involved in evaluating your question. Be sure to mention accountability for your health and that you do not seek opinion, you anticipate results. Do not ask if you need to be seen, tell them to arrage whatever tests are standard to assure no leaks, no damage to your esophagus during surgery, etc...

Good luck, god bless!

I have UHC and was seen in the ER for IV fluids in November, all you should be required to pay is your ER deductible mine is $100. It was well worth it to get the fluids and I felt much better! Good luck keep us posted!

SoGastric, I hope that by now you've gone to the ER. The answering service can't advise anything regarding medical care. If you haven't gone to the ER yet, then you need to be sitting on your doctor's doorstep when his office opens and INSIST that someone see you immediately. You are not there for the convenience of others, this is your health you are dealing with.

I have never heard of waiting for approvale to go to the ER either. Worst case scenario is that they give you an IV and don't admit you, then you'd have to pay your deductible. My insurance waives the deductible if you are admitted.

I certainly hope it's "just" mild dehydration, but you need to be checked out now! Please let us know how things turn out and good luck! :)

I hope to God you are in the ER or hooked to an IV. Dehydration can be LIFE THREATENING and it's been 2 days since you posted.

Light-colored stools are usually related to gall bladder issues. Your nausea could be related to that as well as dehydration. Do you have any pain or discomfort below and under your ribs on the right side?

Team,

Went to the surgeons office without an appointment and caught my surgeon. He was happy to see me. Gave me doctors orders to get hydrated I'm sitting in the ER as we speak.

He gave me two options. Stay two days. Or go in get hydrated and go home. I want to see if this works. So I opted to stay just today.

I'll keep everyone posted.

The charge nurse is rushing to get me in.

You should mention the light colored stools. That is a definite symptom of gall bladder problems. So is nausea. Maybe you should get that checked out too.

Let us know how you're doing!

My surgeon told me the same thing. If you start getting this feeling, its probably dehydration and you seriously need to either get some fluids in or (and he said this directly) come back to the hospital to get them through an IV. I believe the way most insurance companies work is they will cover an ER (even not in your network) if it is an emergency and this IS an emergency. Usually you have a copay that goes with it, but if you're doc won't see you, you need to go to the hospital.

Let us know what happened!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
