Tried A New Protein Drink Today

Recommended Posts

I am not a Protein drink drinker. Even in my Clear liquid phases I drank Instant Breakfast. Couldn't stomach the thought of a Protein shake. (doing Optifast 20 years ago made me nauseas just thinking of Protein shakes)

BUT-I was at costco today and they were sampling both the chocolate and vanilla Premier canned protein drinks- 30 grams of protein, about 180 calories, 1 gr sugar $24 for 18 cans.

I was actually able to swallow it! Both flavors! Didn't notice any protein aftertaste. The vanilla had a faint coconut flavor-but it was nice.

If I had to do Protein shakes ever again I would definitly go with these.

And with costco, if you buy the case, try one and don't like it-You can return the remainder of the case and they will refund all of your money.

I totally agree - I tried about 5 different kinds of Protein Shakes prior to surgery and the ones from costco were by far my favorite! Haven't tried the vanilla ones, I'm happy with the chocolate :) I also mix in a 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt to my shakes to get an additional 11.5g of Protein. Plus a half banana just because I love bananas! Yummy!

Yes, the Premeir shakes are the best I've tried all around. I have been espousing their awesomeness on the board for quite some time.

I'm almost 7 months out and have at least one a day.

Congrats on finding what works for you.

It's the only one I could handle after many trys of other product. I tell everyone about them...even my friends that haven't had surgery.

Does anyone know if you can get the shakes anywhere else besides costco?

You can also get the shakes at Sams Club...at least the chocolate ones. Price in Bama is 17.88 for a 12 pack. You can order them online too but they are more on their website at www.premiernutrition.com. I agree with everyone else these shakes are the best!!!

I agree with all they are my favorite by far. My hubby thinks they taste a lot like a little thicker chocolate milk he does low carb and has lost 40 lbs. They are a part of our regular pantry items and will be forever.

I thought they were specific to costco ShoeLover, I just found them on-line but they are a little more expensive $28 a case.

Yeah for premier!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
