Happy New Life To Me! Less Than 5 Lb.s To Goal

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This morning I hopped on the scale and I have less than 5 lbs. to go to goal!!!!! I wasn't sure I would ever get this close and I thought it make take up to a year to get to goal, maybe more. I am so stoked and in love with my sleeve right now that I could sing and dance down my street singing the praises of the sleeve!

I am blessed that my food addiction was less than some and head hunger has not ruled my life post-op. It does get to me sometimes, but so far, so good. And it's not like I haven't worked hard to get here. I've resisted extra treats, forced myself to work out when I didn't want to, and tracked food and Water intake till I'm pretty sure I could do it in my sleep. I was not a Protein first eater pre-op, but I have stuck with it long enough now that it is a comfortable habit for me.

If you have head hunger that is ruling your life post-sleeve, I really recommend counseling. Our sleeve is a tool, but for some, I think an extra tool is needed, on top of the sleeve. For example, Weight Watchers was a good tool for me, it taught me good eating habits, tricks to get head hunger under control, and how to accurately measure and track my food and exercise. But it wasn't enough of a tool for me. I needed the sleeve to help me get my hunger under control. Without the sleeve, I was always hungry. I had to eat a bigger meal to be satisfied and I got hungry faster after I ate. I finally realized I needed another tool and I got it through the sleeve.

If you are not getting where you want with the sleeve, look for another tool to help you get there. Maybe it's counseling to deal with head hunger, maybe it's finding an exercise program that you actually like and can do (for me that means it has to be a scheduled, group activity!), maybe it's investing in a food scale to accurately measure your food. Whatever, you are so worth it!!!!!

My wish for 2012 is to see everyone here getting healthy, happy, and heading towards or at their own goal!

Lynda,

Congrats on an amazing journey... wow! Just 5lbs to go! Goodness me you'll get there pretty soon, I'm sure! You speak such sense and it is sooooo true that the sleeve is a tool! And a powerful one at that. I am pretty lucky with head hunger and I find that when it does strike, I drink Water to get rid of it! I agree with the exercise thing, it is vital to find something that you enjoy and will stick to and get the results you want.

Looking forward to you're goal thread! =]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
