Numbness In Calf Of Leg

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on January 16th. Everything is going pretty well. However, on the way home I noticed that my right calf (the outside) was numb. Really numb. Is this normal? I do have a bad back and a nerve issue but I have never had any numbness.

You may have a blood clot that is stopping circulation. You need to go to the ER ASAP! A blood clot is really dangerous. Play it safe, and go. Let us know how your doing. Don't mean to scare you, but it is extremely urgent to rule that out. Please let us know how your doing. very worried

So embarrased. The numbness is in the right side of my thigh, not my calf. I have googled it and it is not unusual to have this with abdominal surgery. Something about a subcutaneous nerve being irritated or damaged. So sorry for the scare

cscake, I think you should still go to the ER. Blood clots are NOTHING to play with. I had one that shot two clots into my lungs. I was hospitalized for those two pulmonary embolisms and, more than six months later, I'm still taking rat poison (coumadin) every day to keep my blood thinned. A pulmonary embolism can kill you instantly, with no warning, and it's NOT pleasant.

Had the same problem post op. I have a pinched nerve in my back. Stretching has help some. It takes time to heal.

I'd go get it checked out though.

I can't speak directly for you, but my doctor told me to call him ASAP if I had any numbness or pain in my legs at all. I'd say get it checked out just in case :)

Just an update. First, thank you to all who replied. I sinerely appreciate the comments and concerns. I talked to my physician and he said that it was not unusual and was probably due to my having a nerve problem in that leg compounded by the positioning on the operating table and the straps used to hold me on. I have had no pain, elevated temperature in the thigh or tinderness and those things are associated with a blood clot. Also, my daughter is a nurse and she checked it too.

But, as several of you said, you can't be too careful. Oh, I also weighed today and I have lost 10 pounds. yeah ! and I am now able to eat unclear liquids, so cream of brocolli Soup never tasted so good !

Thanks again.
