How Long Did It Take To Go Through All The Classes?

Recommended Posts

So my first doctor's appointment is Tuesday and I'm waaaay nervous. I keep thinking, "what if I dont qualify" (of course I then look down on my plumptious stomach and realize THAT wont be a problem). Strangely enough what popped into my head when I got the appt was, "What am I going to wear?!" *rolls eyes at self*

I know that I'll have a bunch of hoops to jump through, but how long did it take ya'll to go through all the steps and get a surgical date? My dad took 7 months, but he kinda seemed to just meander through it all. I'm definitely more proactive than he is so I'm hoping for 3-5 months. Is that realistic?

Thanks!

My informational session was at the beginning of November. My surgical date is 2/6- so from start to finish (or should I say from beginning to beginning!?) it will have been three months!

I attribute the speed at which I've gone through the process to being SUPER proactive about my appointments, getting paperwork in, calling to make sure my paperwork was received by the appropriate people, calling insurance to check, double check, and quintuple check that I had all of the requirements fulfilled, took my full five year obesity history record WITH me to my first surgical consult, and just generally rush, rush, rushed! Once I made the decision I was fired up and ready to get 'er done!

With my first surgery for the lapband it took the longest getting all the paperwork put together and then waiting for the insurance to decide if they were going to cover the surgery or not. I think that it was 2 - 3 months from my first orientations session to my surgical date.

My Insurance required 6 months (consecutive) of dietician monitoring so for me, first visit with the doctor was on 06/29/11 and my surgery was on 12/21/11.

My insurance requires 6 months of monitored diet, as well. My third class is schedled for February 21st. I will eligible for surgery in May, but I will wait until June (due to my work schedule). Good luck!

My insurance had a 6-month requirement, but I wasn't given a date until almost 10 months after my initial consult, and my surgery is tomorrow, which is 11-months since my first appointment. I had a lot of stalls in the process, though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
