13 Days...and The Butterflies Are Going Nuts...

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

Well, I've done the this's and that's of everything required as far as pre-op goes. I officially started the 2 week pre-op diet today (which I'm used to...I tried Optifast at one point) and I am feeling all sorts of nervous.

How horrible is the head hunger? I feel like I've made peace with the break up between me and food. I kicked it out...it moved out...but I've done that before. I'm just so worried I'm going to be tormented with head hunger.

I had my gallbladder out in May 2011, so I think I'm pretty prepared for the abdominal pain that is coming...assuming that it'll be a little worse since there is an organ that needs to heal instead of just muscle and incisions.

Also...how do you guys deal with people that you tell that want to scoff or assume you took the "easy" way out? I unfortunately know way too many people who are going to be negative, and again unfortunately, I can't really avoid them very easily. I'm assuming it's not polite to flip them off or punch them :boxing_smiley:

Anyway...any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks so much! Good luck to you as well! I'm sure everything will be fine, but I'm such a nervous nut I can't help but think of that small percentage of people that encounter complications.

Hi There,

Everything you are going through is so normal. If you weren't nervous, there would be something wrong. You know, the head hunger is different in everyone. I found that when I felt hunger, it was usually gas that masked itself as rumbling stomach hunger. As long as I recognized this, I was ok. It lasted a few days, and then it left. Believe me, you will not be hungry after this surgery.

I have to laugh at those people who scoff at your decision, or say that you are taking the easy way out. First of all, anyone who decides to have this operation is a strong person who is committed to changing their lives. It is not an easy decision. No one wants to go under the knife. Those who call it the easy way, would rather see you struggle to lose weight and lose many of the battles. They would rather see you emotionally and physically drained. They cannot have your best interest at heart. I am so lucky that I had 100% support from my husband, family and friends. They wanted the best for me, and they wanted to see me healthy. Stick by those people who want the best for you, and avoid the others. You don't need them. Good luck!

Linda

@ shelly I am feeling the same way. I was just at the stroke doctor and he clam me down. He believes the surgery will be helpful and not to worry I will come out okay.

I think the hardest part is the waiting game. I know how you feel because I don't have much longer either. The anticipation and nerves are annoying, aren't they? :-) I think just envision your better health and that will get you there.

Thanks everyone:) Actually feeling a little more at ease now. Happy there are people out there who have gone through all of it and can offer advice!

I'm lucky to have an awesome fiance, mother (who is an NP, so that helps!!!), brother, and a few friends on my side.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
