Should I Call And Ask My Insurance Again?

Recommended Posts

So I called my insurance and asked if WLS was covered. The rep told me yes, but she couldn't tell me which one exactly. She said the doctor would "put it in" and then I will know whats covered. I'm like "huh?" Should I call again and ask. I think the person I spoke to didn't really want to get into specifics. I have a feeling only the band and bypass would be covered. Or should I wait until my consultation?

Call again and ask! I thought there was no way my insurance would cover the sleeve but low and behold I was approved!!! I called multiple times just to check and double check and recheck.

Bedhead, by any chance are you on another forum like this. I just saw someone with the same handle respond to a post of mine. I know its possible it can be someone else, but would be cool if it was you.

yes CPT codes are universal. That is the best way to find out if something is covered.

Im waiting for my phone to get a good charge. So who would know/tell me how many months of weight management would be needed, the doctor or insurance? I'd assume insurance. The first time I called and asked for info, she said Id need to see a nutritionist. Then when I asked her how long, she tells me there's no set amount of time.

the coordinator for the surgeon you pick should be able to tell you the requirements of the insurance company, also my coordinator said that after the inital call i should let them handle everything so there was little chance of a first denial. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
