blj5362 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Caffiene I was told is a diretic (sp) makes you go to the bathroom all of the time. So if you not careful you will dehydrate. I drank it and was fine but you know what after my surgery I couldn't drink it any longer. I tried and tried it just doesn't taste like it used to. I was a 1-2 pot a day person. Elisabethsew 50 Posted July 28, 2006 I had NO restrictions on caffeine pre-op or post-op. Best of luck to you on the up coming surgery.
Alexandra 55 Posted July 28, 2006 No caffeine restrictions here, either. What did your doctor say?
bluehill 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I had no dietary restrictions pre-op, but the nutritionist advised against coffee as part of the Bandster diet. Did I listen to her? Nope. I drink coffee whenever I please (black, no sugar) and suffer no apparent consequences. In fact coffee makes me happy and improves my mind.
Jachut 487 Posted July 28, 2006 No restrictions here, but being a pretty heavy coffee drinker I took a month or two to cut down substantially becuase I knew I would not be able to fit in the five or six cups a day I normally drink immediately after surgery. I didnt want to be dealing with caffeine withdrawal. I weaned myself down to two cups per day.
DonnaB 3 Posted July 28, 2006 I had to stop drinking coffee because of esophagitis. Caffeine is irritating to the esophagus - I never knew it was a problem, but I definitely feel the difference now. Ouch. Maybe your doctor is trying to wean you off of caffeine before surgery so you won't have to go through withdrawal at the same time you're recovering from your surgery? Not sure. Ask your doc. MelodyJ 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I was told no caffeine---it's a stimulant and can make you eat more?! Who knows....I was already caffeine free prior to surgery! GOd Bless, Melody Banded 3/20/06 -70lbs
Dody 0 Posted July 28, 2006 As stated anything with caffeine is a diuretic and defeats the purpose of keeping well hydrated. My dr. gave a firm NO to caffeine, but I guess all docs have different requirements.
