Tired Of Drinking Broth? Here Is What I Did...

Recommended Posts

Instead of drinking that straight nasty chicken or beef broth, simply buy a normal size can of campbells chicken noodle soop and strain out the noodles and meat. I did it into a coffee cup and nuked it. Tastes SO much better than straight broth and actually has more Protein in it this way.

Thats my take on the broth.

I did not find that the chicken broth or beef broth that I made from the cubes or the jar were that bad. I added extra salt as the salt keeps Fluid in your system longer so that you do not become so dehydrated and become lightheaded or dizzy. If you are unable to live on liquids for a few weeks then you are going to have a very hard time adjusting to your new eating paterns and losing weight as you should.

Actually, I would go to El Pollo Loco and buy a small chicken tortilla Soup and drink the broth. My hubby would finished it off (chicken and veggies). Oh I didn't put the tortilla strips in though. In the first stages, I was allowed to have Protein Shakes, sf pudding, Jello, popicles sf. So I never go bored. Oh if I went out to a restaraunt with my family, I would order vegetable beef soup and sip on the broth. It was really good. ;)

I made my own broths. (chicken, veggie, or beef) They taste SO MUCH BETTER than the boullion broths, and I could season them as I wished. The meat and veggies I used to make the broth, I used in dishes I prepared for my husband

I switched to Lipton Cup o' Soup pretty quickly, the kind with the tiny noodles in it. I didn't eat the noodles at first, but after a few days I was fine with smooshing them up with my tongue before I swallowed. It tastes a LOT better than plain chicken broth!

So, do you have to stay away from Tomato products after surgery? (the acid) I find that V8 vegetable juice is very tasty warm. I use it as the base for my vegetable beef Soup too. It is wonderful!

Tomato and citrus juices were on the no list for me until at least 3 months out. I can handle about 4 ounces of them at a time now, but I waited because of the acid in them. I certainly didn't want to irritate my staple line! :)

Great suggestions! I am so literal that I have been eating canned broths only. Going to the store to get chicken noodle TODAY. I'm not worried about the sodium. I'd rather lose a little slower and prevent dehydration. Am also having watered down fruit juice or gatorade and my energy level is pretty good. Counting the days until full liquid...Thursday, come on, baby!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
