When Will I Feel Pretty Normal Or At Least Without Gas In My Chest?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3-days post-op (1/11/12 surgery) and so glad that my daughter found this website for me! I feel like I was so unprepared for this. When will the gas in my chest be gone and when will I feel pretty normal?

Oh I hear ya. I'm two days post op (1/12/12) and the only thing I'm battling is pressure pains and incision tightness from stiches. Looking forward to what others post on this

My surgery was Dec 12, 2011. I am 1 month post op and still from time to time have gas pains. They do go away I promise but as for how long it takes is different for each of us. It took about 4 days for mine to be gone from surgery, now it just depends on what I eat or drink.

You just need to remember that your BODY has gone through a great ordeal and will take time to heal itself. Chin up it does get better.

Congratulations on having Gastric Sleeve Surgery.

I am 17 days post op. For me, day 4 was the day the gas pains stopped, it was my first day pain med free and I believe the 2 doses of liquid Percocet caused most of the gas . I thought I needed it the first night I was home, but remembered from this site,to walk, walk, walk. That was the best remedy.

HI,, I am 11 weeks out now. I didn't have that but I will tell you that for the first month was the hardest thing ever. Getting used to eating hardly nothing and all the Water and Protein. I was an emotional wreck and I was even regretting it. I can tell you I'm down 48 pounds, gone from a size 18 to a 14 and I can eat pretty much whatever I want, I just get full faster. It will get better each day I promise. Get up and walk as much as you can, that will get rid of the gas.

I walked every couple of hours when I was awake. I took pain meds for 8 days post-op. The last couple of days I only took a half dose.

Forme, it was about 10 days. Each day was better than the day before. I think walking a lot helped. Keep the circulation going to help move the gas out.

I was constanatly walking in the hospital. The nurses got a kick out of me. I feel pretty normal except that my main incision keeps opening and bleeding. So gross! I'm 4 days post-op. Oh yeah, I'm sick of clear liquids!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
