Another Hair Loss Question...weird?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I didn't start losing any hair until about the 4 month mark....since then I have been on a 6week stall and just this week it looks like my hair has pretty much stopped coming out....except I need to loose another 100lbs (my 2012 goal) and I have lost 105lbs so far this past year. So as I loose more over this next year will the Hair loss start back up again or when it stops.....is it done????? I know that Biotin does not stop it but I did start taking it (7500mg) when the hair loss started so could it be helping too? Thanks, Tracy w.

Are you taking in enough Protein? I keep hearing, reading and learning about protein and how if you don't get enough, there will be hairloss.

Are you able to eat Peanut Butter. It has Protein but is also has some fat and your hair also need fat to thrive. Just a thought. I do not have that much hair left but I do not want to lose what I do have......although it would reduce the cost of haircuts.........hmmmmmmmm

Sorry this is a myth. I absolutely got all my protein in and still lost hair. I think for most people it is unavoidable, HOWEVER, it was mostly only noticable to me (um, and my family and my vaccuum!)

Tracey, I wish there was a magic number that when you reach ______XXX time the loss stops. I noticed when I hit a major stall at months 8, 9 and 10, that my Hair loss slowed down considerably. But then to my dismay, I did still continue to lose more hair (at a MUCH slower rate, more like a few stray hairs here and there than what I had previously been losing in my brush, down the shower drain, etc.)

I have been taking Biotin since Sept. 2010 and continue to take it today. It definitely has helped with new growth. When I pull my hair back into a pony tail (usually just for working out not for an everyday look) I can see all these baby hair sprouts growing and sticking out (so lovely!) But that is what Biotin does, it helps you create new growth, it won't prevent hair loss.

Just keep working your plan and I can almost promise you that you won't go 100% bald! You are doing a fabulous job, BTW, CONGRATS!!!

My multivit has 30mg of Biotin which is tallied as 100%. Is that enuf?

I take 5000 mcg of Biotin daily. I'm not sure what the conversion is to milligrams, but my 3rd grade metric class says no, you aren't getting enough Biotin. IIRC, and remember 3rd grade was a LONG time ago: 5000 mcg should equal 50 mg (right?), so you'd need to take two of the 30 mg pills a day for the same amount.

BTW, my biotin bottle says that it's good not only for hair, skin and nail health, but also for metabolism of carbs, Protein and fat.

Now that's strange because these multi vits say 30mg is 100% of the RDA. My hair is more dry than anything. I'm not averse to taking more biotin but wonder is this a Water soluable nutrient or something that has to be moderated. I know I'm not getting enuf Vitamins a and c

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
