I just came across this forum -- it looks like an excellent place to meet other bandsters and share information.

I'm 42 years old and after a lifetime of fighting with my weight (yes, I was the poster child for almost every diet that went around) I finally decided that weight loss surgery was the route for me to take. After investigating, I picked the lapband as the best option for me. I went to my first consultation weighing in at my all time high of 352.

A month before surgery I started to cut back some and two weeks before went into a pre-op diet to shrink my liver size. I was banded on July 14, and am currently enjoying the full Fluid phase. Let me tell you, after a couple weeks pre-op diet and then a week of clear fluids, Tomato Soup tasted like heaven.

I'm really excited about my weight loss so far (down 35 pounds) and looking forward to continuing on my journey.

Welcome,

And yes, this is in mho the best place in the world for friends, support and info. I have made so many friends on here and just love it. I check in here each day before I ever think about checking my email. LOL

Congrats on the weight loss, you were banded 4 days after me. I only had to do liquids one week, mushies one week, week 3, fish and veggies and Monday thank the lord, chicken, yes. We didn't have to do preop diet either from which I'm thankful. I can tell though with each passing day that I'll be ready for my fill in 2 weeks. I have great restriction in the mornings and through lunch but by nighttime it's mostly gone.

Good luck on your journey and we are pleased to have you.

Keep posting here, and reading everything...I have learned so much from the people here, no doubt helping me make it through the first year.

Keep a big picture view and enjoy the ride!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
