Nutrition Md Suggest Seeing An Endocrinologist Do To Poor Loss

Recommended Posts

I had a band and in November had it revised to a sleeve. I weighted 293 at surgery. I got down to 282 on the liquid diet, but then have started gaining weight. Now, 2 months post op I weigh 290. I have worked with nutritionist (who is also an MD) and she had me start following a diet that requires eating more, including 6 tortillas and an avocado/day (She is in Mexico). I started this on Monday at 285 and this morning I was up to 290.

She says my diet is not the issue, that it is metabolic and to go see an endocrinologiest. Has anyone else been to see one??

I'm no expert, but deciding your issue is metabolic after putting you on a diet that sound like its high in carbo and fat seems premature. What has your eating been like post op would you say? How much Protein are you getting, versus carbs and fat? how many calories? Was the nutrition MD familiar with bariatric procedures?

I have been to an endocrinologist several times because of diabetes and some other issues, but I guess I have more questinos for you at this point. I am sure it wouldn't hurt, but the diet she has you on sounds really odd to me.

Oh my this must be extremely disappointing! I can't imagine how I would feel in your shoes. Althought I have never heard of seeing a endocrinologiest my opinion is do what ever it takes. I hope some other speak up and give your advice. I am curious about your original diet (not the new one with 6 tortillas and an avocado). I would like to see if your initial diet was close to mine. Right out of surgery my goals were 70 grams of Protein, 30 grams of carbs, less than 5 grams of fat per serving, 300-400 calories a day. I did up that around 4 months to 600 calories and then until I hit goal I tried to work in those daily amounts. Please keep posting...I am concerned for you.

Prior to the corn tortilla diet I was eating about 50gr of Protein, 40gr of carbs and 20gr of fat.

Not a lot different than yours twoboysandagirl.

Julie, The Nutrition MD works directly for the Bariatric Surgeon I saw in Mexico. In the past I have seen nutritionists who also feel I need to eat more, but they didnt work directly with WLS patients, so I never listened to them before.
