Did anyone or is anyone currently experience extreme Constipation during the pre op diet??

I've been on the low carb diet for two weeks and I start my liquid diet tomorrow and I can't stand this everyday constipation!!! banghead.gif I've taken the laxatives the NUT told me to take but i feel like i'm taking them all the time and i don't want that to mess anything up.

Remember with virtuall no solids being taken in there aren't much coming out. Monitor the situation and if worst comes to worst an enema may be in order.

If there is no pain or bloating then simply live with it till you're back on solids. I personally have to take 1/2 cap of Miralax daily, although I've been battling Constipation all my adult life so the situation predates my surgery.

oh, i thought i was the only one that suffered from that my whole life!!! I hate it but i've learned to live with it. It's a constant battle between my digestive system and me, but i didn't know if it was just my history or this diet.

this sucks! i just want to get this overwith already! lol

You are not alone. When I hit puberty all those years ago, Constipation and insomnia have been my constant companions. And YES it sucks. People don't know how good it is to take a simple dump at regular intervals without working at it.

I've also found that I need to drink a rediculous amount of Water, like 1 to 1-1/2 GALLONS a day, which keeps me from getting kindey stones AND keeps my bowells gowing. I seem to be cursed with an incredibly efficient large bowell - which normall has the job of readsorbing excess Water form the stool to make a semi-solid. It wants to suck ALL the moisture out and leve me high and dry (pun intended).

Hi Rootman

i remember before you mentioning your problems with kidney stones et al. That involves the gall bladder right? I had to have my gall bladder remover 2-3 years ago. It was no problem, and i didn't have any more problems, and the surgery wasn't bad.

How in the world do you get all your Water in during the day? 1 to 1 1/2 gallons a day oh my goodness.

I stop eating 30 minutes before i eat, i eat without drinking, then i don't drink for another 45-60 minutes. Thats alot of time i have to waste not being able to drink. I think i remember you saying something like, you do drink around meals cuz you have to do do your problems? i'm i right? Or was i dreaming at the timelaugh.png Sometimes i don't even get my 64 oz. in.ohmy.png

I do count my shakes w/milk as a liquid, but i try to still get in a lot of H20, cuz i know thats important. So, how do you do? get in all that Water i mean. Whats the secret? come on, come on - tell us the secretgossip.gif

oh well, take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
