Hey Everyone,

I'm Erin from Portland Oregon. I started this process in November and am having surgery in two - four weeks. I'm on the pre op diet, which is going great. I don't have a date scheduled yet and its keeping me up at night. I'm excited, nervous, eager.........and awake! I find sleeping is exceptionally difficult right now. I'm having surgery at the Oregon Weight Loss Center with Emma Patterson. I can't wait to have my surgery scheduled. I'm ready to get this done and start my new life.

Boy, do I remember the antsy wait for a surgery date.

Now is a good time to stock up on stuff for post surgery, like a cute nightie, robe, and slippers. Clean the house with some of that nervous energy and dig out those too-small clothes (who doesn't have at least one box of them?) and get them ready to try on post-surgery. Buy a couple of books to read and some nice lip gloss and lotion. If you don't have a food scale yet, I highly recommend getting one. Weighing is the most accurate way to measure your food. I also used a shot glass and teeny spoon and bowl for my drinks and meals in the first few weeks.

One thing I wish I hadn't stocked up on so much is food- a lot of what I bought pre-surgery I just didn't want post-surgery.

Good luck to you!

Lynda

I just joined this site and have been a lurker on here reading everyone's concerns and triumphs. I haven't had a date set yet, I am going to my 1st dr visit on 3/29 but I attended a seminar about the different surgeries and the risk and benefits of each. Good luck on your waiting and I plan on 'lurking' on your post's to see how everything goes! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
