I did something stupid

Recommended Posts

hi all, I went to a party the other day and I drank for the first time since being banded. It was fun up until the time I realized I drank to much. My tolerance isn't what it used to be. I ended up getting sick. The thing that scares me is I was gagging for almost an hour. Nothing would come up. There was alot of saliva and that was about it. I am scared that I slipped my band. My stomach feels uncomfortable. I haven't gotten sick for years. I am usually very good about how I drink. I very seldom do drink. Has anyone ever gotten sick after there banding? I am scarred to tell my doctor. I figure I have to. Please anyone that has any advice or has everbeen through this, please give me an idea of my chances of slippage. Or even share your story. I feel stupid but most of all upset I put my band at risk. thanks all.

No lectures, you know that's not my style. ((((hugs))))) I'm so sorry! I know that most people are not prepaired for how little tolerance they now have for booze! I think it's important to tell your doc about this, just as an FYI. So, you learned a valuable lesson, so it isn't a total loss, right?

I had the dry heaves this afternoon, and I'll be calling my clinic tomorrow morning, just as an FYI for them. I was at my regular doc's for this rotten on-going headache, and after she stepped out to get me a pain-shot I started heaving. I knew I was queezy, but I didn't realize I was that queezy... So there we are.

It took me a little by surprise the first time I had a drink after banding too. And the trouble is once you've had a bit you lose your judgement and its very easy to make yourself sick.

I havent vomited since banding, but we've had at least 5 cases of gastro through the family since I was banded and I think through sheer will I havent caught it.

You'll know next time I guess and probably since you're not in any pain or having any problems, no harm done.

I have had to vomit since being banded, due to Migraine headaches. It has been okay. I just had a new fill yesterday, done with flouro, and the band is perfectly fine.

If you have any problems or symptoms that are different, though, I would let your doctor know immediately. Each of us react differently to situations, you know?

Good luck, Cindy

I agree that you should call your doctor, but I also think - if you haven't already done this - you should go on liquids for a few days. If you did pull your stomach away from the band, you should give it some time to heal and possibly build up more scar tissue. Even if you didn't do any damage, liquids for a few days can't hurt.

Call your doctor.

I'm not going to lecture either, but I noticed your band date of 6/9/06 and was wondering if your doc said anything about not drinking for at least 6months after banding. Its something my doc said, and if your doc didn't, it might be something to ask about.

Other than that, I agree that liquids might be good and I hope you feel better soon!

thanks guys, I realize it wasn't a good choice. My doctor didn't say anything about not drinking. I should have asked. Thing is I am not a big drinker, so I didn't think to ask. Yes vines good point, I learned a lesson. I really didn't drink much. Well I am seeing my doc on 8th of aug. So I shall see. I really was comforted by u all. I was and still am nervous. I would hate to have abused my band. I hope after my fill my band and I will become better friends. I just need to be more kind to it. Thanks again.

Anytime Hedwig!

I have to call my doc today because I spent a good portion of my afternoon Thursday with the dry heaves. No boozin' for me, just hit a Low. :(

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
