mesaucedo 207 Posted January 9, 2012 Hey Everyone! I am relatively new to this forum. I am self pay in Mexico for March 23rd and was recently thinking about going on a diet and starting to exercise. I just feel like the day I sent in my deposit and finalized the date, that I was ready to take charge of my life and change. I haven't talked to my doctor about this yet. I was hoping to get some feedback! I have this irrational fear that I may not be "overweight enough" by the end of March. I am 5'5" and about 250 so i have some weight to shed before I have too low of a BMI for surgery. So, what do you think? Should I start to exercise and diet now or wait? lisahg 9 Posted January 21, 2012 I think adopting healthy eating habits and an exercise program now can only help you with your recovery after surgery as well as the lifestyle changes needed once sleeved. My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet and exercise program. I managed to lose ckise to 25lbs during that time. Even thought I was really anxious to have my surgery, I think that time really helped me to be physically and mentally prepared. I wouldnt worry about losing too much weight before surgery. From what I have read on here, many of the surgeons from Mexico accept patients with BMI's as low as 30. Good luck!
