Hey Everyone!

I am relatively new to this forum. I am self pay in Mexico for March 23rd and was recently thinking about going on a diet and starting to exercise. I just feel like the day I sent in my deposit and finalized the date, that I was ready to take charge of my life and change. I haven't talked to my doctor about this yet. I was hoping to get some feedback!

I have this irrational fear that I may not be "overweight enough" by the end of March.

I am 5'5" and about 250 so i have some weight to shed before I have too low of a BMI for surgery.

So, what do you think? Should I start to exercise and diet now or wait?

I think adopting healthy eating habits and an exercise program now can only help you with your recovery after surgery as well as the lifestyle changes needed once sleeved. My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet and exercise program. I managed to lose ckise to 25lbs during that time. Even thought I was really anxious to have my surgery, I think that time really helped me to be physically and mentally prepared. I wouldnt worry about losing too much weight before surgery. From what I have read on here, many of the surgeons from Mexico accept patients with BMI's as low as 30. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
