Hey Everyone!

I am relatively new to this forum. I am self pay in Mexico for March 23rd and was recently thinking about going on a diet and starting to exercise. I just feel like the day I sent in my deposit and finalized the date, that I was ready to take charge of my life and change. I haven't talked to my doctor about this yet. I was hoping to get some feedback!

I have this irrational fear that I may not be "overweight enough" by the end of March.

I am 5'5" and about 250 so i have some weight to shed before I have too low of a BMI for surgery.

So, what do you think? Should I start to exercise and diet now or wait?

Im 5'5 and 244, insurance approved! My preop appt is March 20 and the surgery is April 9th! So far the doc has me exercising by walking about 20 mins a day and taking a Multivitamin and Biotin. (as per my reg dr Im on Vitamin D and personal choice I am starting birth control). My general dr said hed write a recomendation letter if I needed, maybe yours would help to? Good luck! I think adopting healthy eating habits and an exercise program now can only help you with your recovery after surgery as well as the lifestyle changes needed once sleeved. My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet and exercise program. I managed to lose ckise to 25lbs during that time. Even thought I was really anxious to have my surgery, I think that time really helped me to be physically and mentally prepared. I wouldnt worry about losing too much weight before surgery. From what I have read on here, many of the surgeons from Mexico accept patients with BMI's as low as 30. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
