2 Weeks Without Any Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I had my VSG surgery on Dec. 20, 2011. I have not had any weight loss since the first week. How long does it take to start seeing any significant weight loss? I have only lost 12 pounds since the surgery (16 pounds since I started losing weight), but I was hoping for more. Is anyone else having this issue?

I think that you are doing great. According to your ticker, I'm assuming that your BMI is lower than most of ours. Just make sure that you are following your doctor's instructions and you'll be fine.

Sometimes patience is the key.

I'm having the same problem. Lost 18 lbs the first week then it stopped. I asked my doc at my follow up appt. and he said that is completely normal. He said now that I'm starting to a little more regularly, the weight will start coming off. I guess he was right because this morning I woke up to a 1 lb loss! Hang in there, hopefully you'll notice it soon.

Your body is adjusting to all of the changes and recovering from surgery. Just be patient and you will see the loss. Most of us have hit a stall here or there. The weight will come off again! Start walking if you haven't already. That really helps.

your actually doing really well.. i was sleeved a few days before you and im down just under 20 lbs. So don't be discouraged.. if you wanna restart the weight loss get into a regular exercise regimen if your not already.. the cardio will help treamendously.

Also by the looks of it.. you are like me and started at a lower BMI than most so your going to see a slower rate of loss than say someone with a BMI around 45-50 because they have more excess weight to lose. So hang in there.. the stall will pass.

Heck I actually gained 3 lbs last week... and it all came back off with an additional 2 lbs. so don't worry.

Hi,

There are some things I need to ask you. Are you tracking everything you are putting in your mouth? There are some good sites to track this. You need to know just how many carbs you are eating each day. You should NOT have more than 20 to 25 carbs per day. Are you eating about 800 calories each day? Are you doing any kind of exercise--something simple like walking?

I went for 9 days without a weight loss, so it is pretty normal to "stall." But what you are or are not eating is really the key too.

Keep doing all the right things and it will start up again OK!

Hugs,

Suzanne

I've stalled out, too. I had surgery Dec 6, 2011 and for the past week the scale has gone up and down 2 lbs, but I can break the stall. I'm sad, but I know stalls are normal and I understand the mechanism is a function of evolutionary biology.

It certainly has had one positive effect: I work harder at the gym! Hang in there!!!!!

I Lost 21 lbs the first month after surgery, 5 lbs the second and so far this month, 5 lbs. I read somewhere that your body remembers a certain weight. If you were 200 for say 6 years or so, then you will likely stall at 200. I wish I could remember where I read this because it was interesting. I stayed at 210 for around 4 years and I have been fluctuating between 212 and 209 for about 3 weeks now. I weighed in this past weekend and I'm at 207. I have my fingers crossed that the stall is broken. It's frustrating but it will pass. As long as you are staying on plan, you should see losses again soon.

I was sleeved on the 29th and have read a lot about the very mixed results early on. For that reason, and for my own sanity, I've just decided that this whole first month of January I don't care what I weigh. I am just trying to get used to how the sleeve feels, what it will accept/not accept, healing & regaining energy, etc. I don't know if this is possible for you or if it even makes sense for you and your situation, but above all else I'd simply say be gentle and easy with yourself. This was a big step and is/was major surgery. Try more than ever to love your body as it heals & recovers to the new "version" of you. The weight loss will come.

Thanks everyone for your support. I did start with a lower BMI at 41, and now i am at 39.9. I have been eating between 600-800 calories a day, sometimes less, sometimes more. I have about 20g carbs a day, but around 60g Protein. I am following my doctors orders. I have not been released to go to the gym yet, but I have been going to the Zoo, Chuck E cheese with the nephews, shopping with my sister, and walking around the neighborhood. I cant wait to be able to go to the gym again. I also am starting work again today, and I am not sure I am ready to go back, but we will see what happens. Thanks again for your support and encouragement.

I am in a stall too, and the scale has even gone up a little.. so frustrating. Glad to know it's normal, but can't wait for it to MOOVE!!! Had my post op checkup on Friday and no downward movement since. Also went to mushies, so that might be messing with the works too. I don't know what I would do without these message boards... I would probably go nuts thinking I had somehow done something to screw this up or that I would be the one person who would only lose 15 pounds after surgery. Back to working my sleeve... have a good one everybody!Banane08.gif

My surgery was also on the 20th. The first week, lots of weight lost. The second week, two pounds. I decided not to weigh every day and so tomorrow will be my 3 week weigh in. But I have felt very frustrated too! I have followed dr's orders to the letter, not eating things I shouldn't. I'm still on full liquids. Now I've decided to really push the Protein. I have been getting 65-80 g. per day, but I'm aiming for 100 now. My dr. told me that people who get in 90-100 g of Protein per day tend to have the best weight loss, so I'm pushing for that. Even though I'm only on liquids, I feel like I'm stuffing myself to get the protein in. I get virtually no carbs or fat at this point, and around 500-600 calories per day. That will go up slightly now that I'm working hard to take in more protein.

Thanks for sharing; it's good to know I'm not the only one who is seeing slow results overall.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
