Glass Of Vino After Surgery? What Are The Consequences?

Recommended Posts

Thanks folks. Certainly careful of transfer addictions.

Have had the occasional glass of wine, but am not getting carried away.

I appreciate everybody's input!!'

I was cleared for a couple of drinks a week at 6 months out. I started with a glass of port. It had been so long that the first one felt warmer than I remembered and I needed just one to get a little buzz. Next up a few days later, I tried my traditional Christmas drink: Cointreau and and Cranberry juice. I had a couple of those and had a pleasant buzz. A couple weeks later I had a Mai Tai at PF Changs. Only needed one of those. Those puppies are strong! I think it takes a little less because it's been six months since I had anything.

But drinks are empty calories so I am really limiting how many I have since I'd really like to hit goal by Valentine's Day. And I will be diligent about how often I drink even after I get to goal because I am scared of transfer addiction. I'm in my mid-fifties and I've never had a problem with drinking too much, but I sure don't want to start now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
