Surgery went well and smoother than I anticipated. I am beginning my 3rd day post-op and will continue to work on getting my Water in. Headaches are a #$@%^ without it.

I'm 5'1" and some change and at goal. I might have something to add here if anyone has questions.

I had surgery at 242 pounds and a very snug 18/20 and am now maintaining between 133-137 pretty easily. Most of my clothes are size 6 or small. I had hoped for a smaller goal weight' date=' actually, but it's just not going to happen. I'll need plastics eventually and that will easily take that last ten pounds off for me. It's not that I really feel I need to lose more weight, either, it's just that the BMI chart really sucks and my doctor still kinda nags about me being so close to the overweight line.

Anyway, hello to everyone! It seems like the majority of the folks here were just recently sleeved or are awaiting surgery.

Edited to add pictures. Everyone loves pictures, right?

When did you have surgery? How long did it take to lose?

I am 5 ft (and maybe 1/2 inch- from the fat on the bottom of my foot).

I am cracking up!

My question to you is that you have lost so much, in what amount of time? and also I noticed that you don't have the "wings" so to speak under your arms from the weight loss...how are you keeping your skin so tight? Thanks for your time!

It took me 17 months to get to goal. Nobody likes to hear that part! I lost slow and fairly steady the entire time, regardless of what I did to change up my diet or exercise. That might be part of why people often say that I don't look like I was ever overweight (whatever that means?) and why I don't appear (in my clothes) to have much loose skin. I also avoided the sunken face thing that can happen when you loose weight really quickly. So remember that every time you get ticked at a stall on the scale! You're just getting extra time for your skin to catch up. :)

I'm not a great role model - I only just started exercising not too long ago. My arms look good from the front but if I hang them out like I'm a bird I definitely have small wings. They're not so bad I'm looking for surgery on them, though. I'll just keep doing the arm workout I started a few weeks ago and hope it firms things up a bit.

Anyway, I hope that answers your question!

I have BCBS of DE. They require a bmi of 50 or higher as well. Do you have co-morbidities? If so, you can try and fight it. I contacted the insurance commissioner, and a day later I was approved. You can contact me privately, if you want...

This is interesting to me. I, too, have federal BCBS and my requisite BMI was 40. I guess the difference in the state we each live in. I'm in Texas.

Mine was also 40 in Texas. It all depends on the particular plan stipulations and hoops!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
