I'm Probably A Screw Up...

Recommended Posts

A very close friend passed away today so the three remaining went out tonight. I have had 3 drinks, but I am 11 days from surgery. I'm lost and want to take care of myself but keep thinking what's the point. I regret drinking and won't continue to, but I feel horrible for doing it and horrible for thinking about me instead of her.

Hi Tlmiller2971. The death of somebody close is bound to bring up a variety of emotions. You recognised that drinking so early after your surgery was not wise, so just forget what happened and think forward. Don't be too hard on yourself. Give yourself time to grieve for your friend. My only advice is for you to try and separate the feelings of loss due to your friend's death and the feelings linked with the lack of food and alcoholic drinks that would have been your crutch pre-surgery. You will have to find a way to cope differently from now on. Sorry for not being more helpful. I send you a big hug.

So sorry about the loss of your friend.

But to put this in perspective - There is nothing wrong with having three drinks prior to surgery. It might impact your presurgery weight loss and if you are on a pre op diet, clearly drinking is not part of the plan.

Please don't beat yourself up over this.

Or...maybe you are human. It is NEVER easy to lose a loved one. It sounds like you are taking good care of yourself, it was just a slip.

Don't beat yourself up. Let your doc know, just in case s/he thinks it might complicate surgery, but don't think it's the end of the world.

I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. That is never easy to handle. (hugs)

I don't know if this is really going to help but here it goes, I am so sorry for your lost, it is a good friend to feel guilty after the death of a love one. But I don't believe you are a screw up. You just reacted to the pain you were feeling.

When I lost my aunt I was feeling guilty because I was thinking about myself and not her. But I found a stranger who told me that it was okay that I was thinking about myself because she would not have it any other way. So continue with your plans because her wish for you now that she is gone is to be happy and that she will watch over you as you meet the goals you are hoping for.

So everyday I light a candle and pray that with gods help and hers I make it through another day strong.

I listen to spanish christen music and there is a song that gets me thru "Yo Te Extranare" by Tercer Cielo

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
