lazzareschi 0 Posted January 7, 2012 I just had my Psychiatry appointment today. My surgery is on 2/02/12. Been researching and working the Program through Kaiser S. San Francisco w/ Dr. Alami. This Web Site has been the BEST and most healpful in geting info, support and in the end making the decison that this is best for my health. "IT FEELS LIKE A VERY SUPPORTIVE FAIMLY" I know there can always be side effects and complications - But I'm Freaking Out about The What If's ......???? what if I am that 1% who gets sick or dies? I real want this for my Health and Mental Well Being - but I'm having seconds thoughts. THANK YOU VS FAMILY
Lissa 2,631 Posted January 7, 2012 First, congrats on moving forward and researching Wls Second, it's normal to have nerves and fears. Work on those you can and talk them over with your medical team. Once you've handled what you can, let go of the rest. This is a big decision, but very few people say they regret their sleeve. Good luck on your journey!! cherice95403 13 Posted January 7, 2012 I had sleeve surgery with Dr. Aami in Sept 2010. I was having second thoughts right up to the day of surgery. This is major surgery so of course you are having second thoughts. In the classes you have attended, they should have addressed the complication rate, which when I went was very low. It's true that some people do have complications, whicle others have none. I had very serious stomach acid issues for 5 months and could barely eat at all (even by sleeve standards). Recovery seems to vary widely as well with some people saying it was very painful and others saying it was fine. No one really knows what their expereince is going to be like. For me, this surgery has been liek changing. I went from 247 to 125 pounds. I feel better, I am off my meds, and I have energy again. My expereince with Dr. Alami and his staff was very positive, but this is a personal decision and if you are truly not sure if this is something you want to do, you can always delay your surgery. This is a big decision and you need to feel good about it. Cherice
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted January 7, 2012 Being nervous and getting cold feet is probably the most common response once it becomes a reality and time draws closer to the surgery date. Do not worry!! You are NOT alone here. Please note, yes complications are possible. But what is also possible if you don't have the surgery and get healthy? Well, your chances of diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol, arthritis, strokes, heart attacks... etc... you get the idea.. are far higher. All of these afflictions I've witnessed first hand and I've seen what they can do to you. They absolutely will kill you. So, on one hand you have surgery, on the other you have all those other diseases that you are very highly going to get. Put those on a weight scale and see which one I chose. You are taking the right path, do not stray! I do have a suggestion, find some people here who have experienced a leak. Ask them point blank if they regret their decision to have the sleeve. I have not seen one yet that wishes they didn't have it done. Hugs and Blessings!!! Xoxo - Change your life for the better!!
