What About Baby Food?

Recommended Posts

In the soft food phase, do any of you use baby food to help you get started? If so, what are your favorites (or at least what can you gag down)? Thanks, all.

I liked the fruits only. There just wasn't room for much cause I was focused on protien only and the baby foods are not protien dense!

I have used some baby food and the only ones with any Protein that I like are the Lasagna with meat sauce and the chicken with noodles. They do not have much protein so what I did was take some ground hamburger and some finely chopped chicken and add them to each of the baby foods to increase the Proteins. You will have to add some salt and pepper as baby food had no seasonings. Stay away from the Chicken and vegetables.

I didn't go near 'em. :) I figured I could survive on cottage cheese and yogurt for a couple months without getting scurvy. biggrin5.gif

I wish I hadn't bought them. They aren't bad, but the appeal just isn't there. Also, I am doing better than I thought I would be as far as tolerating foods. The prunes aren't bad at all though. I am glad I have those.

I bought a bunch of baby food and its still in the pantry. I was only able to eat the banana and apple sauce. and i only had a couple teaspoons of each. My advice is to skip the baby food....yuck. I survived off of cottage cheese, apple sauce, Protein pudding, and ricotta bake.

Cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, Light Babybel cheese, Laughing Cow Light Swiss, and Isopure Dutch chocolate made with unsweetened Almond Milk. I figure that I'll be eating enough baby food when I'm 110 that I don't need to start now.

I didn't eat any of the baby food I bought. Thankfully, it was only six jars! I used my magic bullet to purée chili, Soup and make Protein dense foods instead. I drank lots of broth during the clear and full liquid stages.

My doc has his patients go on a week of pureed after the full liquids, then the soft. I found there are pouches of pureed mixed flavors. These are newer types of baby foods. They are quite tasty. They are easy to digest and flavorful. They look like a juice pouch that can be drank. Mashed potatos are allowed too and one package of instant mashed potatoes= 4-5 meals for me. Regular jar baby food has no appeal to me. Especially for meats. I did read however, ground meat (lean ground meats of course) are not a bad option. Baby food has no flavor.

I bought and hated each one I tried- They don't have a lot of protein- I did better blending my own home made food and the fruits had too much sugar and were too sweet for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
