Hi Everyone and Happy New Year! I am 3 months and 2 days out. I have developed a rather disturbing symptom in the past two weeks. I am bruising all over my body. I don't remember hurting myself or bumping into anything. My husband is embarrassed to go out with me. He is afraid someone is going to think he is abusing me. Did anyone else experience this or do you have any idea what might be causing this? I I haven't changed my diet, pills, Fluid etc. Thanks for all your info. It has helped me so much with my concerns.

I did a quick google search and found this:

http://www.fitsugar.com/Why-Do-I-Bruise-So-Easily-160076

I'm not sure how old you are, but I have heard before that some people tend to bruise more easily as they age. Also, since you are losing weight, you have less fat to protect the body from bruising. I've bruised easily all my life, always finding bruises and not remembering how I got them! I can contribute that to my anemia, though. Have you been taking a Multivitamin? If not, I would suggest that and see if the bruising subsides. If it continues, I would consult your doctor.

Sorry about how your husband feels. Maybe, for the time being, you could try some concealer when you guys go out? Not a solution, but it might make him more comfortable.

When I had that problem years ago when I was thin and not eating enough the doctor said I had a Vitamin K deficiency. Has you doctor checked your blood for vitamin deficiencies?

Thanks guys. I went to the site and it had excellent info. Also less fat does mean skin not padded. I use to get bruises a lot when I was young due to being anemic. I thought as I got older I had just outgrown this problem. However, it makes sense that when you lose weight your skin isn't protected like before. Thanks for the replies. As usual, excellent feed back here and I appreciate the time you took to respond. I see my surgeon on Thur. and will be asking him about this. Happy New Year!

I would get hemoglobin levels checked, as well as liver function tests! How good are you about taking your Iron, B12, and Multivitamin? Do you get proper liquids and nutrition in?

Less fat should not be a reason to bruise more. If that were so, skinny people would be walking around in hues of blue and purple.

Sasicas, Did you have bruising before the surgery and if not about when did it start? My last blood work levels were perfect on 12-12-11. But I see my surgeon on Thur. Congratulations on your weight loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
