Being Told By Everyone How Much Better Gastric Bypass Is ...

Recommended Posts

Escake sorry, so very sorry about your daughter. Mine had the lap band and her success was my motivation to do something. After one appointment and researching, my decision was based on many of the factors others have listed.

Good luck to you hugs and prayers as the next couple of weeks will be difficult, mentally and physically for you. Glad you have support with hubby.

Sandy

After reading for months online about the sleeve I found out that the sleeve was originally used for very obese patients as the 1st step in their weight loss journey. Once losing some weight the plan was to go back and do the bypass. Doctors soon found enough weight was lost with the sleeve alone that a second surgery wasnt needed. I had several stomach issues prior to getting the sleeve. I quickly discounted the bypass for that reason. I would eat and right after have to run to the bathroom. It was awful. One doctor thought I had Crohns. Since having the sleeve all my stomach issues have been resolved somehow. Its seems like a less complicated surgery. After the surgery you simply eat less. No magic, no malabsorbtion problems etc. Some comments you get are made out of ignorance. A lot of people dont know much about this surgery.

Also, even though GB is technically reversible it is very difficult to do. Here is an article someone led me to when I was considering it.

I hope people come around and are supportive of you!

than sleeve gastrectomy. I got this from my surgical coordinator when I told her why I choose the sleeve: "Well, gastric bypass is the Cadillac of WLS and there are no long term studies for the sleeve ..." and then she went on about the pros of bypass.

Also from family - they thought bypass sounded better because it's reversible (who does that? Reverse a bypass I mean?).

To me the sleeve is far superior because you keep your own stomach, can take steroids, keep your stomach and valves, less chance of dumping, don't have a blob of unused stomach in your body, is restrictive and does not cause mal-absorbtion of nutrients, etc., etc.

I guess the weight loss is slower, but all the better for my skin. What is it with all the negativity?

You know, here people are mostly WAY for the Sleeve, at an RNY site they might be WAY for RNY. People want to support what they have paid for. And others that don't know much about any surgery will talk about the gossip they have heard. Look at the statistics, listen to your guts, look at what people say third, and make a judgement from that in the end.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
